PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Player of the week for (May 24th - May 30th) is 3B Marty McManus of the Hattiesburg Doublewides. During the week Marty batted .500 (8-16) with a slugging percentage of 1.250, hitting three home runs and three doubles, amassing nine RBI and scoring six runs. Marty started off the week hot with home runs in back to back games and the only thing that cooled him down was an injury on the last game of the week. Marty is currently riding a nine game hit streak and had an extra base hit in five of six games during the week. This is Marty's first award and has been a member of the DBS for inception.

Other Player of the Week Candidates:

RP - Jesse (Pop) Haines of Montgomery who appeared in four games pitching 4 1/3 innings not allowing a run and collecting four saves.

SS - Arky Vaughn of the Furtraders who on the week batted .440 (11-25) with two doubles and a triple with three RBI and nine runs scored.

OF - Earl Averill of Freemont who batted .414 (12-29) with three home runs a triple and a double a slugging percentage of .828, five RBI and ten runs scored.

OF - Al (Bucketfoot) Simmons from St. Louis who batted .414 (12-29) on the week with two home runs a triple and two doubles with five RBI and six runs scored.


PLAYER OF THE MONTH, MAY

Player of the month for the month of May 1933 is SS Arky Vaughn of the Freemont Furtraders. Arky appeared in 25 games during May and led the league in batting average and hits. His totals are .413 (45-109) with a slugging average of .624, hitting four home runs, five doubles and three triples. Arky also knocked in seventeen runs and scored 27 times. During the month Arky had sixteen multiple hit games including four three hit games and two four hit games. He also had seven multiple run games and six multiple RBI games. Arky is currently riding a twelve game hit streak.

Other Player of the Week Candidates:

OF - Randy Moore of Harlem who batted .403 (29-72) with two home runs, six doubles and four triples. He had fifteen RBI and scored ten runs with a slugging percentage of .681.

OF Roy Johnson of Harlem who batted .346 (37-107) with three home runs, eight doubles and two triples, knocked in nineteen runs and scored seventeen times.

OF - Heinie Manush of Montgomery who batted .341 (42-123) with two home runs, seven doubles and a triple, was second in the league with 25 RBI, scored fourteen runs and stole a base.


PITCHER OF THE MONTH, MAY

Pitcher of the Month for the Month of May 1933; is SP Charlie (Chinski) Root of the Freemont Furtraders. Charlie completed the sweep by Freemont for the month's honors by posting a 4-0 record in seven starts, having an ERA of 1.58 allowing only ten earned runs in 57 innings pitched. He completed three games, one a shutout and struck out 30 opposing batters. Charlie started out the month slow with two no decision, but pitched well, allowing one earned run in seventeen innings. He then won four straight games, pitching three complete games, one a shutout. In that stretch Charlie struck out seventeen batters and walked only six. His best performance was on the 20th when he two hit the Plague for the shutout.

Other Pitcher of the Week Candidates:

SP - Carl (The Meal Ticket) Hubbell of North Dallas, last months pitcher of the month continues to thrive. He was 4-2 on the month in six starts, completing five of the games with an ERA of 2.09 allowing twelve earned runs in 51 2/3 innings and striking out 27 batters.

RP - Clint Brown of Harlem who was 4-0 on the month with two saves. He allowed only six earned runs in 17 1/3 innings with an ERA of 3.12 while appearing in fifteen games.

SP - Tommy Bridges of Montgomery who was 3-0 on the month with an ERA of 1.75 allowing five earned runs in 25 2/3 innings, starting four games, completing one with ten strikeouts.
