When Montgomery pitcher Ed Morris was shot and killed,
he may have taken with him the identity of the man who

attacked Harlee pitcher Larry French on the eve of
Game 7 of last years World Series. An unknown assailant
tried to wound French and prevent him from pitching
the series clincher. Former Harlem pitcher
Pat Caraway was originally arrested as the getaway
driver, but was released on lack of evidence.
The identity oif the hitman was unknown, but Ed Morris
was questioned repeatedly about his possible role in
the attack.

But with his mysterious murder, the true indentity of
the attacker may never be known.

Morris, 31, told the police that it was a set-up, and
that he was "just a patsy". He even claimed that
the photographs of him and the alleged attack weapon
found at his home were doctored, and the shadows
didn't line-up.

Morris' assailant, Joe White, denies any connection
with the French attack or the cover-up. "I just got in
an argument with him." It is believed that White had
ties to the Mafia, but that is purely speculation.
"After I am exonerated, I intend to be an
entrepreneur, maybe own a night club."

Meanwhile, a Disrict Attorney in New Orleans has
re-opened the case on Caraway's involvement, but detractors
claim that he is going after Caraway only because of
his "alternative lifestyle".

No one is sure at this point if the case is
unsolvable, or if the truth will ever be found. 
Did Morris act alone? Was the Mob behind it? The
Cubans? Maybe we'll never know.
