GAME 3

FREMONT CLUBS MONTGOMERY, TAKE SERIES LEAD 2-1

MONTGOMERY, AL (AP): The Fremont Furtraders clubbed three home runs and rode a strong pitching performance by veteran Dazzy Vance to defeat the Montgomery Burns 5-1 in Game Three and take a two games to one lead in the 1932 World Series.
Mark Koenig struck the big blow, a three-run homer in the top of the ninth, to break open a close game. Koenig, who was inserted at third base late in the game by manager Jack Quinn, made the Burns pay for their decision to pitch to him rather than walk the bases loaded. Fremont pitcher Paul Derringer was the next hitter in the lineup, and both of Fremont's top pinch-hitters were used earlier in the game.
Fremont starter Dazzy Vance followed the Series pattern of strong pitching performances. Vance only walked one and struck out ten in seven innings and only allowed one runner in scoring position over the first five innings.
Vance was matched by Montgomery starter Tommy Bridges who worked his way through the Fremont lineup with relative ease. However, he was touched for a home run in the top of the sixth by Earl Averill to break a scoreless tie. The Burns' Paul Waner quickly evened the score with a solo home run of his own in the bottom half of the frame.
Fremont broke things open in the ninth. With reliever Sarge Connally on the mound for the Burns. Lou Gehrig homered with one out to put the Furtraders in the lead. Riggs Stephenson and Tony Cuccinello followed the Iron Horse with consecutive singles. With two out and Connally struggling to end the inning down a run, Burns manager Wilbert Robinson ordered his reliever to pitch to Koenig, who was making his first at-bat of the Series. Koenig lofted Connally's third pitch into the stands to break the game open.
In the bottom of the ninth, Fremont reliever Paul Derringer struggled with two out, allowing two singles and a stolen base. At that point, Fremont manager Jack Quinn saw enough and entered himself into the game. Quinn retired the last batter of the game without incident to end the game and give Fremont a 2 games to 1 lead in the World Series.
Fremont has an opportunity in Game Four to take a three games to one lead with a victory, a tall order in the Burns home ballpark. Neither starting pitcher has been named by their respective management for Game Four at press time.
