The Pawtucket Flying Dutchmen have given the following
players their immediate release from the ball club: C
Andy Asbjornson, 3B Andy High, 2b Jimmie Reese and 1B
Del Bissonette. Both Andys played well at the end of
the season, but the Dutchmen feel there are better
players out there to fill the roles that they are
presently in. Honus Wagner had nothing but great
things to say about Del Bissonette, one of the club
house leaders and a great first baseman, but the
Dutchmen can not afford to pay two first basemen and
with Charlie Grimm being younger and having a great
1931 Del became expendable. Del is the Pawtucket
career leader in games played (406), at-bats (2031),
hits (559), base-hits (368) and RBIs (278).
In another note Pawtucket has announced the release of
OF Freddy Leach. Freddy led the league in triples the
past two seasons and in doubles this season. However
the contract demands that Freddy has laid on the team
has angered management and they have given him his
immediate release. A spokesman for Pawtucket gave a
statement stating the Dutchmen will not be held
hostage by a player regardless of their performance
and self imposed worth.
The Dutchmen are also releasing P Jumbo Elliott, who
never lived up to his potential finishing with a
career record of 12-29 and an ERA of 5.38 with 5
saves. The Dutchmen also announced the release of P
Jim Lindsey who was very effective in his short career
in Pawtucket with a career mark of 4-10 with five
saves and an ERA of 3.78 and pitched Pawtuckets only
no-hitter.
The Dutchmen have come to terms with a new player to
fill a void left by these players, LHP Bob Weiland.
