The Harlem Knights have won two straight pennants, and this year, their sights are set on the World Championship. Harlem, after winning 97 games,
are heavy favorites after Sahara hung around into July before the Knights ran off with the title. Montgomery grabbed their second pennant in three years
and are looking to upset the Knights.
PLAYER OF THE MONTH, SEPTEMBER
Mel Ott
Player of the month for the month of September 1931 is
Outfielder Mel (Mater Melvin) Ott of North Dallas.
For the month Mel batted .621 (36-58) with four home
runs, two doubles and three triples, knocked in
eighteen runs and scored nine times himself. Mel had
a slugging percentage for the month of 1.0345 and led
the league in hits and runs batted in was second in
home runs and was tied for the league lead in triples.
Mel had eleven multiple hit games including one six
hit game, three four hit games and three three hit
games. Mel had four multiple RBI games and three
multi run games. Mel also had two multiple home run
and one multiple triple game. Mel�s best game came on
September 5th where he went 6-6 with seven runs batted
n and scored two runs.
PITCHER OF THE MONTH, SEPTEMBER
Carl Hubbell
Pitcher of the Month for the Month of September 1931
is SP Carl (The Meat Ticket) Hubbell who had a record
of 3-0 with an ERA of 1.91 in four starts, allowing
six earned runs in 28 1/3 innings pitched with one
complete game shutout. Carl pitched well in three of
his four starts this month, in those three starts Carl
was 3-0 allowing two earned runs in 24 2/3 innings
pitched. In his other start Carl fell on bad habits
that have effected him most of the season allowing
four earned runs in 3 2/3 innings and not getting a
decision. Carl has recovered very well in the second
half of the season after a disappointing first half of
the season and finished the year with a record of
10-12.
