MONTGOMERY WHIPS PAST STUMBLING HATTIESBURG

Montgomery (61-57) swept Hattiesburg (56-59) to move into first place, with Hattiesburg relinquishing the driver's seat for the first time this season. Meanwhile, St Louis (53-60) is only 5.5 back, and North Dallas is only 7 back, leaving the SouthEast in a four team race for the second consecutive year.
Meanwhile, in the NorthEast, Harlem (73-45) have a 3.5 game lead over Sahara (68-47), who continue to be the success story of the year. Pawtucket (53-61) has been playing excellent ball, yet find themselves 19 games behind. Fremont has fallen to 26.5 games out at 47-72.


PLAYER OF THE MONTH, JULY

Earle Combs

Player of the month for the month of July 1931 is Outfielder Earle (The Kentucky Colonel) Combs of St. Louis. For the month Earle batted .369 (45-122), hitting four home runs, eight doubles, knocked in twelve runs, scored twenty-seven times himself and stole seven bases for the current DBS champions. Earle had eight two hit games and six three hit games along with three multiple RBI games and five multiple run games on the month. Earle led the league in hits, batting average and runs scored and was second in doubles.

PITCHER OF THE MONTH, JULY

Herb Pennock

Pitcher of the Month for the Month of July 1931 is SP Herb (The Knight of Kennett Square) Pennock of Sahara. A runner-up last month, Herb put together another impressive month of activity. For the month Herb was 4-0 with a 1.39 ERA allowing only seven earned runs in 45.33 innings. Herb pitched a least nine innings in all five of his starts this month completing three of his five starts, two of those being shutouts. Over the last two months Herb has compiled a recorded of 9-1 with an ERA of 1.57 with seven complete games.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Herb Pennock

Player of the week for (July 31st � August 6th) is SP and current Pitcher of the Month Herb (The Knight of Kennett Square) Pennock of the Sahara Jihad. For the week Herb was 2-0 with two complete game shutouts. His first shutout was on July 31st against Montgomery, where he provided all the offense that he needed also going 1-3 with a home run, two runs batted in. His second appearance was against Freemont where he struck out two and scattered nine hits.
