The Harlem Knights (49-42) continued their winning way on the road, sweeping Montgomery and taking 2 of three in Dallas, to open up their
lead to 4 games over the second place Sahara Jihad (63-44). Pawtucket (50-59) continued their improvement, although injuries are beginning to mount.
Fremont (44-47) continues to fall, now 25 games behind the front-running Knights.
In the SouthEast, the Hattiesburg DoubleWides (56-52) have continued to hold off the Montgomery Burns (57-54). The D-Wides continue to have a half-game
lead, and still have not surrendered first place. Meanwhile, St Louis (51-57) have moved to within 5 games, but the North Dallas 40 (49-64) have
fallen to 9.5 games back.

THE COMMISSIONER'S VIEWPOINT
Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Dean
DBS 1931 is headed for a dramatic conclusion in what can arguably be its finest year so far. For the first time in league history, both division races are tight
as we enter August. All four teams in the Southeast division having a legitimate shot at a pennant. The surprising Sahara Jihad, bolstered by the best pitching
staff in the league, continue to challenge a strong Harlem club. Bill Terry finishes July at a torrid pace and do we dare ask if he will become the first DBSer to
ever finish over .400?
Now nearing the completion of its fourth season, the DBS and its teams have firmly established itself as one of the premier simulation leagues on the Internet.
Rivalries have been born and teams have established identities. Draft day is one of the most anticipated days on the DBS calendar. Relatives of players from the
1930's have contacted us with their remembrances, as have other fans. The DBS is linked on the SABR website as well as John Skilton's Baseball Links, two of the
most widely respected baseball sites available. Our site boasts, quite possibly, the most comprehensive profile segment for players of this era and we also haven't
forgotten how to have a little fun.
All of this would not be possible without the commitment and active participation of the DBS owners. Through their contributions of statistics, insights and humor,
the league would cease to exist. Even with the time demands of family and other interests, their efforts have taken the DBS to the next level beyond a mere simulation.
The DBS and its teams have taken on a life of their own and our owners are directly responsible. I applaud all of your efforts and look forward to the challenges of
upcoming seasons. May we continue as long as possible.
