The Sahara Jihad (36-29) remain a half-game back of the Harlem Knights, who at 37-29 are tied with Hattiesburg for the best record in the league. The Jihad have been
bolstered by the outstanding pitching of Lefty Gomez and George Blaeholder, who is 7-2 in relief after coming over to the Jihad in a pre-season deal with
the hapless North Dallas 40. Fremont (32-36) has stumbled, and Pawtucket (31-36) has almost passed them and gone out of the cellar of the NorthEastern division.
Hattiesburg has been slumping, but have not fallen to Montgomery (35-31), who have also been slumping. Good news of late for the Burns is that last year's
Cy Young winner Wes Ferrell is returning to form. St Louis (28-38) is languishing in last place, as North Dallas upped their record to 30-38.
