Harlem continues to hold on to first in the NorthEast at 21-11 , but Fremont (18-15) has gotten hot and won their last 5. Meanwhile, Pawtucket (14-19 ) and Sahara (15-18)
continue to falter and remain behind the pack.
Montgomery's managed to hold off Hattiesburg in an early-season clash. The Burns (19-14) are 2 games over the Dee-Dubs (17-16).
North Dallas (14-19) has pulled themselves out of the cellar, passing defending champs St Louis (13-19).
PLAYER OF THE MONTH FOR APRIL
Bill Terry
Player of the month for the month of April 1931 is
First Basemen for the North Dallas Forty Bill (Memphis
Bill) Terry. Bill started out the month on fire
hitting safely in the first twelve games of the season
and is currently on a six game hitting streak. Bill
was only held hitless twice for the month, had twelve
multiple hit games including two three hit games, two
four hit games and one five hit game. For the Month
Bill batted 46-112 (.411) with four home runs, eight
doubles, drove in twelve runs and scored seventeen
times himself. Currently bill is the only full-time
player averaging over .400 for the season and leads
the league in hits and is second in slugging average.
PITCHER OF THE MONTH FOR APRIL
Watty Clark
Pitcher of the Month for the Month of April 1931 is RP
Watty Clark of the Harlem Knights. For the Month
Watty is a perfect 3-0 with eight saves having an ERA
of 0.38 allowing only one earned run in 24 innings.
Watty appeared in seventeen games on the month
amounting ten strikeouts, ten walks and only allowing
eight hits. During the month Watty appeared in eight
straight games for Harlem, amassing six saves and one
victory.
ODD NOTES FROM THE DBS
Red Kress of Hattiesburg leads the DBS with 27 RBI, while managing
only 27 hits.
Tom Zachary of Harlem has allowed only 4 runs this season, but
each
run has resulted in a Harlem loss. His record currently stands at 1-4.
North Dallas' team batting average (.294) is almost as high as
Sahara's, Fremont's, Harlem's, and Hattiesburg's top batsman's average
(Sahara's Chapman is hitting .303, Fremont's Wally Berger is hitting
.308,
Harlem's Bill Dickey is hitting .310, and Hattiesburg's Kiki Cuyler is
hitting .311). North Dallas, however, has a worse record than all four
of
these teams.
The top two slugging teams in the DBS (St. Louis and North Dallas)
have the worst records in the league.
Fremont's Rube Walberg has already pitched a no-hitter and a
one-hitter this season.
CONTROVERSY IN FREMONT
AP wire report from the Grand Rapids Press,
The Grand Rapids Press report that newly acquired SS Glen Wright has
been
demoted to the Furtraders AAA affiliate Argyle and that little used SS
Leo
Durocher has been called up to replace him.
The story unfolded something like this, Wright had been staying with
Manager
Quin while he looked for an apartment in Fremont. After his demotion a
distraught Wright went on a bender. When he returned to the Quinn
home, an
inebriated Wright allegedly crawled into bed with Quinn's wife. Upon
his
return from the office Quinn finds Wright in his bed and punches him
out.
Quin gave Klenk an ultimatem it is either Wright or me. Wright has
been
demoted for the time being.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kiki Cuyler
Player of the week for (May 1st � May 7th) is OF Kiki
Cuyler of Hattiesberg who was a runner-up last week
and wanted to prove a point this week. For the week
Kiki batted .571 (12-21) with three doubles, scored
seven runs, knocked in three and had two stolen bases.
This gives Kiki a two-week average of .500 (23-46)
one home run, seven doubles, nine runs batted in,
scored thirteen runs and nine stolen bases. For the
week Kiki appeared in six games hitting safely in five
of them and getting more than one hit in four of the
six.
