If anyone has a healthy arm, Hattiesburg can use your services. With Erv Brame out for a couple more weeks and Ray Kremer still sidelined, the DeeDubs lost right-hander
Burleigh Grimes. Still, they find themselves pulling through and remain tied for first in the SouthEast with Montgomery at 8-6. Montgomery took a 6-game winning streak
into Fremont, only to be swept by the Furtraders. Last year's Cy Young award winner, Wes Ferrell, fell to 0-3. North Dallas (5-9) wound up splitting their
series with Pawtucket after getting beaten up by Montgomery. St Louis, the defending champions, ended their 8-game road losing streak by defeating Hattiesburg on April 15.
Still, they find themselves mired in last place at 4-9, but only a half-game from moving out of the cellar.
In the NorthEast, Harlem's pitching continues keep the team at the top. Harlem (10-3) have a 3 game lead, thanks to pitching by Lefty Grove (3-0), rookie Larry French (2-0)
and Bill Walker (2-0). Watty Clark is tops in the league with six saves already. Pawtucket (7-6) is still trying to keep pace with Harlem, but have lost catchers
Earl Grace and Casper Asbjornson for 2 weeks. Fremont (7-7) is playing very well, sweeping Montgomery after a poor stop in Hattiesburg. Sahara (5-9) managed to take two
from Harlem this week, but also lost 5 to Harlem, including consecutive shutouts.
St. Louis coming out of the Depression; Hallahan in trouble
Things are beginning to calm down in St Louis.
As the A-Holes continue their slide towards the bowels of hell,
unemployment in construction is marching higher. Local economists say
the continuing rioting is a boon for construction and repair
contractors
and hardware stores.
Until further notice, Bill Hallahan on off-days will follow milk
delivery wagons picking up horse (excrement). April 13, 1931
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Guy Bush
Player of the week for week number two (April 10th
April 16th) is Starting Pitcher of the St. Louis'
Guy (The Mississippi Mudcat) Bush, who for
the week compiled a record of 2-0 with going sixteen
innings in two starts without allowing an earned run.
On April 10th Guy pitched eight scoreless innings
against Pawtucket scattering three hits, walking
another three and striking out one. On April 16th
against Hattiesburg Guy once again pitched eight
scoreless innings allowing only five hits and five
walks and striking out one. He has been one of the
few bright spots so far this season for the defending
champions.
