GAME 2
MONTGOMERY ROUTS HARLEM 8-2
one a double by Pie Traynor that put the Knights down 3-0. Alvin Crowder relieved Walker and he promptly allowed a single to Heine Manush that
brought another pair of runners home. Before the Knights even settled in the dugout, they found themselves behind 5-0.
Armed with a large lead, Montgomery starter Wes Ferrell settled into a groove. Ferrell cruised through the first three innings with little difficulty,
building the confidence of the Burns as he did so. Ferrell did have a brief outburst in the bottom of the fourth when he allowed a single to Chuck
Klein and Don Hurst's second home run of the Series.
Crowder also turned in a tremendous performance in relief. After the Manush single that scored the final two runs of the first, he allowed only a
pair of hits in over six innings, both of which were inconsequential.
Montgomery broke through for three more runs in the eighth. After Paul Waner walked and Rogers Hornsby singled, Rip Collins doubled home a
run and Mickey Cochrane grounded into a fielder's choice to score Hornsby. Pie Traynor closed out the scoring with a sacrifice fly that brought the
Montgomery tally to 8-2.
Two days ago, the Burns were left for dead. With two straight wins in a difficult city to win, the Burns are cautiously optimistic. However, no team in
baseball history has ever come back from being three games down to win a postseason series and only twice has a team ever forced a sixth game. The
Series now returns to Montgomery where the Burns hopes rest with Game Three loser Fred Marberry. Harlem will send the imposing Lefty Grove
to the hill, who is 5-1 this season for the Burns and had an impressive victory in Game Two.
