GAME 2
GROVE, BAMBINO LEAD HARLEM PAST MONTGOMERY – TAKE 2-0 SERIES LEAD
Grove's counterpart, Wes Ferrell, was not as commanding. He consistently had difficulty retiring the Harlem order and observers felt that it was a
matter of time before the Knights would break through with another run.
Ferrell's luck ran out in the sixth inning when he allowed back-to-back singles to Myer and O'Doul with a runner on two out. O'Doul's single gave
him his second RBI of the day and his team a one run advantage 3-2.
In the ninth inning, it was Babe Ruth's time to shine. Facing a weary Ferrell, the great Sultan of Swat launched a rocket into the center field stands
with a runner on to close out the Harlem scoring at 5-2. The majestic, towering blast drew respect from the Montgomery fans who reluctantly
applauded the slugger as he crossed home plate.
The Harlem bullpen picked up where Grove left off. In the eighth, Watty Clark, who set a single-season DBS record in 1931 for saves, retired the
Burns in order. Tom Zachary closed to door on the Burns in the ninth inning to earn his second save of the Series and give Harlem a 2 games to none advantage.
The Series now shifts to Harlem, where Game Three will be played Sunday afternoon. Rookie Larry French takes the hill for Harlem, seeking a
commanding 3-0 Series lead. Fred Marberry will start for the visiting Burns, who are hoping to avoid that unenviable position.
