PAWTUCKET FLYING DUTCHMEN 1930 PREVIEW

The fruits of their first pennant smelled ever-so-sweet. What is ahead, however?

DRAFT
Lon Warneke is a can't-miss prospect, and Joe Vosmik is a sold hitting outfielder. The rest fill in, 
but this team is aging quickly and will need to plug some serious holes in the future.

CATCHING
Gone is Val Picinich, leaving the Dutchman with Hank DeBerry, Glenn Myatt and Bennie Tate. Don't know 
what else to say. 
Grade: D


INFIELD
The Rajah is getting old, and will share second base duties with Doc Marshall and Jimmie Reese. Del 
Bissonette is expected to continue to be a solid first sacker, and Pinky Whitney is still a star at 
the hot corner. But the mystery of shortstop, and at second base, will spell trouble. 
Grade: B-


OUTFIELD
Curt Walker, Harry Rice and Freddie Leach are solid, and Harry Heilmann is nearing the end of a great 
career and still can hit a ton. Just hope injuries stay away. 
Grade: B


STARTING PITCHING
Will last year's rookie sensation Eddie Wells continue to dominate? That is the big question. 
George Uhle (16-7, 2.19) should remain the ace of the staff, and Bump Hadley was very effective 
this spring. Sammy Gray's inability to throw strikes has the coaching staff worried, and Ownie 
Carroll is having elbow problems. Hopefully, Bill Shores can help out

BULLPEN
You have Ray Kolp, who is very consistant, is the mainstay. But will they have enough to help out 
when the starters fail? 
Grade: C


OUTLOOK
One and done. They are still probably a step ahead of Hershey or Sahara, but one thing could derail 
the Dutchman and make 1930 a veerrrryyy long season.
