January 2001 Newsletter

Brother Knights,

I do hope you all had a joyous Christmas as we celebrated the birth of Jesus with our family and friends. I pray continued blessings for you, our Church, and our council as we head into the next year. I hope to see each of you at our next business meeting on Thursday, 4 January 2001, at 7:30 PM.

Our pancake breakfast on 17 December was one of our best ever. As we agreed at our November meeting, all proceeds from this event were donated to Father Dennis for his distribution to needy families in our parish. That total was $440.00! Also, Brother Walt Donovan organized a raffle of the "world's largest Hershey bar" and raised an additional $76.00 for Birthright (Ric Bendio's daughter won the 5 pound chocolate bar and Ric is now accepting donations to purchase larger pants). Thanks to Mike Straight for organizing the breakfast and to all the Brothers who helped out.

Enclosed, you will find the year 2000 survey of fraternal activity. This report of volunteer hours and services is important for the Knights of Columbus to maintain our status as a non-profit organization. Some of the activities we were involved in from 1 January to 31 December 2000 were: free throw competition at church and district, ushering for Rite of Election, Easter, Jubillee 2000, and Christmas Masses, leading Stations of the Cross, Easter egg hunt, Red Cross blood drive, 3 pancake breakfasts, painted the church trim, Boy Scout activities, games at the parish picnic, Bishop's BBQ for priests and seminarians, St. Vincent de Paul Thanksgiving baskets, Rake Up Boise, etc. This list is not all inclusive but it should serve to shake your memory as to where you contributed volunteer hours during the year. If you have not done so already, please fill out the form and give it to our Financial Secretary, Steve Haglund, not later the 15 January so he can send in our council's report on time. You can bring the form to the next meeting or mail it to him at 4217 S. Rimview Way, Boise, ID 83716.

At our next meeting we will discuss our free throw competition in January, a Marion Hour of Prayer service, Morality in the Media, Respect Life march, our next family gathering, and some fund-raising ideas.

Once again, many thanks to the Knights of Our Lady of the Rosary council for all you have accomplished in 2000. I'm looking forward to another great year in service to our Church, Community, and Family.

Fraternally yours,
Larry Connell, Grand Knight
