February 2002 Meeting Minutes




DATE: February 7, 2002. Called to order by Grand Knight at 7:32.

ATTENDANCE: Roll call of officers was taken. 19 Brothers were in attendance.

MINUTES OF PRECEEDING MEETING: Read and approved with no corrections.

FORMS 100: Ted Welp and Nick Jagelski were contacted. Glen Fouch and Nick? Sandmire expressed interest in joining the council. Membership director Walt Donovan will contact these new individuals and report in March. There is a 1st Degree on Sunday the 10th at St. Mary’s in Boise. There is a 2nd and 3rd Degree at St. Mary’s in Caldwell on Sunday the 17th.

REPORTS: Chaplain reported that Lent is coming. Ash Wednesday masses are at 8 AM and 7 PM. Themes for Lent are prayer, fasting, and giving. Desired DDP deadline is February 24. Remember Holy Week the last week of March. Fr. Dennis encouraged us to attend the continuing lecture series and other adult education opportunities.

Treasurer reported a balance of $1610.65. Last pancake breakfast had expenses of $285.81 with collections of $618.

Family Director, Paul Saras gave a report on last Family Night—the potluck on January 19th was well attended and a great time. Planning another gathering in a couple of months.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

Activities award nominations are due to State Deputy on March 1.

Tom Donovan updated us on the upcoming annual blood drive, March 21st. He will be signing up parishioners the next few weeks after masses. Goal is 40 pints. Drive is on Thursday from 2-7 PM with a penance service to follow.

Boy Scout Troop 7 summer outing may need volunteers to drive or help out in other ways. More information will follow.

NEW BUSINESS:

Knights will lead Stations of the Cross on February 15th and will lead again and provide the Lenten meal on March 15th.

Brother Walt Donovan proposed a resolution to be forwarded to the State Council for consideration. The resolution calls for the Supreme Knight, Carl Anderson, to express outrage at The People’s Republic of China’s consistent intolerance of Christianity. The resolution was discussed and we voted to forward it to the State Council.

Brother Fred Sisneros needs volunteers to assist in calling parishioners about DDP campaign on February 24th.

GUEST SPEAKERS:

District Deputy, Marty Merriman mentioned an officer’s meeting on February 16th at Holy Apostles’ in Meridian. St. John’s Cathedral Council is putting on a chili feed on February 23rd to support kidney camp. State Convention is 19-21 April and all 3rd Degree Knights are encouraged to attend.

GOOD OF THE ORDER: The mother of Tom and Fr. Robb Keller passed away.

Fr. Dennis led us in the closing prayer.

Addendum: It was realized after the meeting was closed that delegates and alternates to the State Convention had to be elected today. The meeting was recalled to order with a quorum and we decided delegates will be GK Chuck Winn and Past GK Larry Connell. Ross Borden will be first alternate and Walt Donovan is second alternate.
