Summary: The Romulan Senators are assasinated by a clone of Captain Picard and the Remans who are cousins of the Romulans plan to invade Earth.
Plot: The Romulan Senators reject a proposal by the Remans (from the twin planet Remus which has one side permanently facing the sun so the inhabitants live on the nightside) when the proposal is rejected one of the senators leave a device behind which kills all the remaining Senators. While this is going on Captain Jean Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) is attending the wedding of his first officer Commander William Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and Councillor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) after the celebrations which sees a cameo from Guinan (Whoopi Goldberg) everyone returns to the Enterprise and the crew detect strange electric readings and set off to an unknown planet where after speeding around on a buggy they find a prototype of Commander Data (Brent Spiner) and set off to Romulus where the new leader plans to create a peace between the Empire and the Federation however Shinzon (Tom Hardy) who is a clone of Captain Picard (and the Nemesis of the title and needs his DNA to survive) plans to kidnap Picard and lay waste to Earth, using the Scimitar which is a huge warship and can attack while cloaked (notice any parallels?) the Enterprise and two Romulan ships are severely damaged by the Scimitar so Picard uses the Enterprise to ram the Scimitar (Technically the Enterprise should have been destroyed if its shields and structural integrity field where both dead). After the Scimitar backs off Shinzon orders the activation of the primary weapon which destroys all organic cells so to stop this Picard beams over to try and stop it, Data also joins him by jumping out a hull breach (see it to believe it) Picard manages to kill Shinzon by impaling him on a pole and the two share a brief moment of togetherness, Picard realises he doesn't have time to stop the blast destroying the Enterprise but Data comes along and uses a site-to-site transporter to send Picard back to the ship and Data sacrifices himself to save the ship. After the Scimitar explodes the crew share a moment of family. The Enterprise then returns to Earth where it is refitted and Riker and Troi head back to Romulus to begin the negotiations with them and Riker is finally Captain of his own ship.
Good points: Terrific action, lots of great special effects, nicely designed space battle scenes especially the crash scene, great acting, nice wrap-up if it is the end.
Bad points: Where did the prototype come from, what is that buggy all about?, where did the clone come from? niggling story problems like that.
Addendum: So far this film hasn't done well at the American box-office and due to the current petition against Rick Berman it looks as if once again Star Trek's future is uncertain since Enterprise isn't doing as well as hoped so Star Trek could possibly be ending soon, though I hope not for more information visit www.startrek.com or imdb information on Star Trek: Nemesis.
