They always sit at the breakfast table
While they habitually read the newspaper
And everytime they speak, it's in a civilized way
You care more about it than me
He thinks, She never understands me
She thinks, What is up with him?
She really wants to understand him
Because they love each other so much
He talks incessantly of freedom
She dreams of being a harmonious twosome
He doesn't want to burden her
She wants her piece of sorrow
and they talk over eachother.
So it goes for many years
Until the end of their days
They live togetheryet alone
and thereby miss eachother
When she wants to have more time with him
As it apparently used to be
He dreads sitting at the regular table
And she puts it off until next time,
because he can build daydreams so beautifully
She pulls one there every time and believes in them
And when these plans become irrevocable again
She stands there with empty hands.
They look for themselves
They need each other
They love themselves
But they can never find each other
At the end of the day, he watches the the late night news
She waits for him in bed
When he at last he crawls into bed,
She sleeps deeply and soundly
