A stereogram is a two dimensional image which
“hides” in it a three dimensional object! In order to see this 3D object you
must stare to the image having each of your eyes looking straight ahead and not
focusing to the same spot. This is a little bit difficult to be done and needs
practicing. When you achieve this you will see the 3D object coming out from
the meaningless 2D image. It’s quite impressive.
You can use “Stereogram designer” to produce your
own sterograms. It has a built in drawing program with which you can produce
the basic shapes: rectangles, ellipses, arbitrary polygons and text. The
drawing program uses objects, this means that every shape you create is a
separate object and you can change its properties separately. That is, you can
move it, resize it, rotate it, crop it or change its drawing order. The most
important property of each object is the heights of its four corners. By giving
values greater that zero is like lifting the object from its surface (and thus
looking like a 3D object). The distance of every edge of the object from the
surface in millimeters is equal to the value that we have given to its height
property. When we have finished creating objects in the drawing surface and
have given them different heights, then we proceed constructing the stereogram.
This is a very fast procedure and the result is a an arbitrary image which
shows nothing, but which it hides in it all the objects that we have previously
created. The only thing you have to do is stare to the image and try to look it
with the eyes looking straight ahead. When you manage to see it the result will
be astonishing!
The application is under construction yet, but a
lot of features have been included from the last time. The background of the
stereogram image can be a bitmap, positioned in many ways. It can be tiled,
stretched to fit the image, centered and more... The strongest feature for the
moment is the ability of the application to accept arbitrary
3d objects. These objects can be created even from AutoCad!!! I have
created an F-5 aircraft in AutoCad and have made it a stereogram image with
this way.
You can print your generated stereograms to your
printer. The procedure to do this through the application is very easy.
For the moment the Stereogram Designer can generate
only still stereograms. In the feature there will be the possibility of
creating animated stereograms, that is the objects will have the ability to
move, rotate and lots of other things.
A help file is also created for use with the
application, although you will not need it for constructing simple stereograms.
I wrote this page to see if the world of Internet
finds any interest in this kind of applications. If anyone wants to know more
about this application e-mail me at [email protected].
What I want to see is if it worths making a more detailed page about the
application (including the application of course).
