Food, leather and gold ....
The first impression i had with Bangkok is that it is a blend of modern civilization and historic treasures. In my years of going to this city, i have seen how its infrastructure has also developed. I mean the first time i set foot on it, the nasty traffic jams were just simply horrible that we could not really enjoy much our city tour. Then the highways and skyways were slowly built to give this chaotic metropolis more peace and quiet.  While we can also see  collage of urban squalor, as most developing countries are, Bangkok is so exotic !

When i saw the
Grand Palace with the Temple of the Emerald Buddha,  they are really works of art.  Those intricate designs pasted on its walls would really put you in awe :) Thailand, where most of its people are Buddhists, have a lot of temples where the Buddha is carved in precious stones. There's the 18k gold statue and the Leaning Buddha . A trip to the Temple of Dawn on the other side of the Chao Phraya river is also a fantastic place to go to.
Going shopping is a fun thing to do in Bangkok with all the cheap leather goods and clothes that i can get my hands into :) The floating market which sells souvenir items and what have you, would also be an interesting place. Bangkok also has good quality gold jewelry. Be careful though when choosing. Just be sure that you go to recognized gold shops or you'll later find that not all that glitters is gold :)

Ah yes, besides shopping, eating out in Thai restaurants is definitely great. Simply stated, Bangkok is one of the best eating places in the world, for gourmet and gourmand alike.  Almost every major cuisine in the world is represented in specialty restaurants. Quality Thai and ethnic food are present in outlets as diverse as street front restaurants and markets. If you're the daring type, you can always go to the street stalls and try your luck at the  local cuisine.  One problem though is that if you're not so familiar with Thai cuisines then just open the Thai menu, point to any dish and pray for the best. Well don't worry, they don't really serve cobras or monkeys so it should be ok :) Or you can also try your own version of charades. If you want an egg for breakfast, draw a picture of an egg or cluck your arms like a chicken :) That's always a safe bet; besides how many ways can you ruin a chicken :)
Nightlife in Bangkok is definitely enjoyable. It is only here that you can shop at night amidst the glittering lights of  night clubs with interesting ladies lining the  streets of Patpong.

A week in Bangkok is hardly enough for me to shop till i drop, eat till i'm fully stuffed, visit exciting temples to attain Buddhist enlightenment and get curious with dancers along Patpong while trying my luck bargaining at the night market !
