About Enlisting, "Become a Re-enactor"

The members of Knap's Battery take great pride that we are now in our 30th year as a re-enactment organization. We are always looking for new members. Our current ranks include members from several states, including Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, and New Jersey. If you have an interest in the Civil War, and would like to become a part of one of the longest lived artillery re-enactment groups in existence, please contact us about joining Knap's Battery. It is only through the dedication and commitment of our veteran members, and the continued recruitment of new Civil War enthusiasts, that has kept our group strong and in existence for all these years. We are proud that we can humbly follow in the footsteps of the original Independent Battery 'E', and in honor of their sacrifices, are thus dedicated in tribute to them, to keep their memory alive through our deeds.

Obtain an "Application for Enlistment" form. Complete and return to the battery.

What does it cost to join? As stated in the F.A.Q.'s, dues are now only $5 / Month ($60 / year), payable in quarterly increments of $15 or, if you prefer, lump sum payments. No profit is derived from this money for any individual. These monies are used strictly for battery expenses, transportation costs, equipment maintenance, etc. To some of you this might sound like a lot of money, but remember, this is a hobby. What did you pay for that last round of golf that you played?
As a new member, you must obtain a reproduction uniform and required personal gear (canteen, blankets, eating utensils, etc.) within one year of application in order to become a full member. This cost can vary depending on personal preferences, but the average recruit can expect to spend between $300 - $400 total for these items. This is one advantage in enlisting with the artillery, the cannons and expensive camp equipment are owned by the battery as a group, and unlike infantry, you do not need to purchase a musket and related attire.
