Not a good day again. I totally rebuilt the front of the fuselage and headed out to the field to go flying. This time my whole family came along to see the flight. Well the first flight didn't go very well at all. I got the plane airborne and made a left turn downwind avoiding a bunch of trees to the northeast. But the plane still seemed under powered and crashed into the ground about 10 seconds into the flight.
At this point the family had seen enough and went home. But Dave stuck around and I patched it up and tried it again. This time was a no go too. It crashed right after I tried to lunch it. Then when I was trying to fix it up for another flight the motor wouldn't work. I found out that one of the wires going to the motor was completely fried. This explains why I have been having the problem with no power. So I twisted the wires together and wrapped some electrical tape around it and launched it again.
This time the plane lunched right into the air, the plane was flying great. But then on about the third time around the right wing just ripped off. That resulted in a dive straight into the ground. And it hit right on the dirt bike path near by throwing up a big cloud of dust.
Needless to say I'm looking at rebuilding the fuselage again. The wings were mostly undamaged by the crash, it was one of my old repair jobs that gave out in mid flight. But I am happy to know the bad wire to the motor was the reason I hadn't been able to get it airborne the last time I went out to the field. But the motor was smashed up pretty good and will need to be replaced. I do have another one I bought at the hobby shop. They said it is a 500, where the old one was a 550, I hope the new one will be powerful enough.
1. The motor draws a lot of amps thorough the wire, the wires probably don't last very long before they need to be replaced.
2. The wing spars are very important, and if they are broken it's best to replace the whole length, don't just glue them back together where they were broken.
