THE BLUE SPECTRA. Well I got a new plane, another Spectra and this time I made it blue. I finally got it all built and it looks much better than the last one. I figured out how to use the heat gun this time and it made a big improvement. And I reengineered the front end so the motor is held in with electrical tape so when the plane crashes the tape will give before the shaft is bent all to hell. And I decided to put the folding propeller on, since a bent shaft at the end of every flight was a given without it.

So I took it out to the field today. I still have problems getting it airborne. The first time I launched it I had a lot of trouble controlling it and it did some pretty wild turns and ended up crashing in the wilderness to the north again. I was so pissed, I was afraid it was totaled after I spent all this time obsessed with getting it built to fly it. Then I thought I wasn't going to be able to find it in the thick brush. But after about an hour of looking for it I finally found it. One good thing about crashing in the thick brush was that it provided a good cushion and the plane was undamaged. So I dragged it back out of there.

I decided the reason it was so hard to control was because there wasn't enough weight in the front end so I taped some pennies on and tried it again. This flight was great and the folding propeller made a big difference in the gliding performance, and when I landed it there was no damage at all.

So I put in the 2nd battery and tried it again. No luck this time. I don't know if it was because there was no wind at this time, or because of the battery I bought at the hobby shop. (I swear everything I get from there doesn't work) So I decided to quit while I still had a plane in one piece and it was starting to rain so I packed it up. But then a wind came up so I took it out and tried it again. This time I got it to fly, but I should of added some more weight to the front end since this battery is smaller than the other one. So I had a hard time controlling it again, and I almost clobbered myself with it, and it crashed. This time the tail was broken off. Minor damage, I could of fixed it up in the field real easy, but I decided to take it home and fix it up real good and avoid the rain.

1. The instruction say to balance the plane so it hangs slightly nose down. But it needs a little more than that for me to fly it.
