THE END OF THE YELLOW SPECTRA.

After a couple of tries with motors that I bought from the hobby shop I decided that the motors they sell there are not powerful enough to fly the plane. So I ordered another one from Tower Hobbies. It got here last night and I installed it in the plane and took the plane out to the field today.

The first flight went perfect and I landed with only minor damage. The propeller shaft was bent a little and that was all. So I put the second battery in and launched it again. This flight went great; the 7-cell battery provides much better performance. A couple times during the flight I shut down the motor and let the plane do some gliding.

About the 3rd time I did this the plane somehow got going too fast in a high-speed dive. I saw that it was headed for the ground and pulled back on the stick. But I guess it was going too fast as the right wing buckled again. At that point I think the wing would have still held on and pulled the plane out of the crash attitude it was in at the time. But then a wild tree jumped up and clipped the wing ripping it the rest of the way off the plane. The rest of the plane continue on its trajectory like a rocket and hit the ground with a loud smack about 50 feet away.

The fuselage and the left wing ended up in an open area and I had no problem locating them. But after about 30 minutes trudging around in the 8-foot tall cattails I was unable to locate the right wing. I would of kept searching but since that was the 2nd time a wing had broken in flight, I figured it was time to trash both wings and buy new ones. And since 2 new wing kits will cost 40 or 50 dollars and a whole new kit cost about $60, I'm just going to buy a new kit. Not to mention that the new motor was ruined in the crash too. But at least the receiver and servos are in good condition. I'm going to do the next one in dark blue or black.
