We traveled into Nassau, Bahamas by Carnival Fascination cruise ship during the Christmas of year 2007. The ship sailed smoothly from Miami to Nassau port. Nassau is the capital city and commercial center of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.
Nassau has an attractive harbor, a colorful blend of old world and colonial architecture and a busy port. The tropical climate and natural beauty of the Bahamas has made Nassau a popular tourist destination, with a reputation for relaxing days and an exciting nightlife.
We spent most of the day at the Atlantis resort. The Atlantis now has a 97-acre "waterscape" with over 20 million gallons of lagoons, pools, and waterfalls, not to mention the giant subterranean aquariums, all adding up to the "largest marine habitat in the world". Giant Waterslides near the Royal Towers, the five-story Mayan Temple has a 60-ft. vertical drop that ends in a clear tunnel inside a shark-filled lagoon, and a pair of Challenger slides.
In the evening, we had a complete city tour covering the complete city north to south and east to west in two hours by taxi. During the tour, we stopped by a local cuisine to taste conch fritters. This is a traditional Bahamian recipe that is made with conch, this wonderful shellfish that is delicious but so hard to find outside of Bahamas. These fritters are great as an appetizer.
We had to rush back to our ship for our formal dinner or else we could have spent more time in Bahamas for shopping.
