Character Evaluations

My Party Members

Cloud Strife: Cloud is the main character of the game. You cannot switch him to someone else. You probably dont want to do that even if you can. Cloud is well developed in every category. His level 4 Limit Break, Omnislash, is the most damaging Limit Break in the game.

Tifa Lockheart: Tifa uses a chain type of Limit Breaks, which isnt too bad. There can have seven total hits. However, for some reason, her regular attacks only deal around 900 of damage sometimes even with her ultimate weapon and maximum attacking power. If I were to replay this game, I probably switch Tifa to Red XIII for personal bias.

Cid Highwind: Cid is one of the best characters in the game. I can almost guarantee he won't disappoint you. His level 4 Limit Break, Highwind, is as impressive as Clouds Omnislash.

Other Characters

Aeris Gainsborough: Aeris won't live for too long.

Barret Wallace: Barret's level 4 Limit Break, Catastrophe, is similar to Cids Highwind, but not quite as powerful. His regular attacks also have the same problem as Tifa sometimes.

Red XIII: Early on, Red XIII will have the highest physical attacking power of all. He can make battles much easier. Later, when everyones attacking power reaches the maximum, Red XIIIs value automatically decreases as well. His level 4 Limit Break, Cosmo Memory, features a very cool animation, but its only a single hit. Still, he is one of my favorite characters.

Cait Sith: Cait Sith is similar to Selphie in FF8. He has the rarest Limit Break, Instant Victory, which defeats all enemies on the battle screen in one shot. However, you wont see it too often. So, dont count much on it.

Yuffie Kisaragi: Yuffie is one of the two secret characters in the game. She is a very underrated character. Her level 4 Limit Break, All Creation is the same as Red XIIIs Cosmo Memory, a single hit. However, her second level 3 Limit Break, Doom of the Living, will be one of the most powerful Limit Breaks in the entire game once her strength reaches the maximum.

Vincent Valentine: Vincent is another secret character, probably also the coolest designed character in the game. Much like Red XIII, he will be very useful in the beginning, but loses his value as the game progresses toward the end. Early on, everyones HP and power are still low. Vincent Limit Breaks can be extremely useful. They allow him to transform into different beasts that increases both his HP and power. He can merely take out a boss by himself. However, you lose control of him for the remainder of the battle once he transforms. Early in the game, your best party will probably be Cloud, Red XIII, and Vincent.

Strategies & Secrets

Infinite Knights of the Round

Although this method can make the battle very boring, But it allow you to cast infinite KOTR. Some people even consider it as cheating. Well, it is definitely not cheating. It does not require GameShark or any other breaking codes. It is just a logical and clever combination of Materias.

One character must have this:
Knights Of The Round HP Absorb; Counter Mime; W-Summon (optional)

The other two characters each needs to have this:
Counter Mime

When you enter a battle, all you need to do is summon one KOTR, and you can relax and enjoy the taste of victory. Let me explain how it works. KOTR attacks 13 times. Each individual attack should inflict a maximum of 9999 HP or close to it when your magic is high. Since it is linked with HP Absorb, it will convert 10% of the total damage to your HP, which exceeds a character's maximum HP. Counter is linked with Mime. Every time the enemy attacks a character, he/she will counterattack with Mime. This allows them to mimic the previous action, which should be KOTR. He/she will immediately summon another KOTH without sparing any MP and will be completely healed as well. W-Summon allows casting two KOTR in a row. It can help defeating the monsters faster.

Emerald Weapon

Emerald Weapon is one of the two extremely tough bosses added in American version of FF7. However, if you use the Infinite KOTR strategy above, the battle will be as easy as taking a candy from a baby.

But can you defeat this guy without using the Infinite KOTR strategy? Definitely! In fact, it might even be possible without using KOTR at all. Even though I have never tried it, but I believe it can be done. However, the battle will be incredibly difficult. You must have the combination Final Attack linked with Revive (or Phoenix). Emerald is capable of destroying your entire party in one hit.

Ruby Weapon

Ruby Weapon is another super hard optional boss in American version of FF7. This monster is even tougher than Emerald. The easiest way to defeat it is by of course using the Infinite KOTR strategy.

Ruby Weapon will use Quicksand twice to eliminate your party to only one member. You can avoid this for a short period of time by entering the battle with two party members dead then revive them back. It's actually possible to defeat Ruby Weapon with only one character and not using the Infinite KOTR strategy. I have done it. Without KOTR, I'm not too sure since Rubys defense is inconceivably high. None of the other attacks can deal serious damage. However, I have heard that you could use the item Hero Drink several times to raise your strength. But, I have yet to verify this.

*Note I have heard that you could defeat both Weapons with All Lucky 7s. I have never gotten this because it is so rare.
