The Perfect Love

She loved the arms that held her tight
The body warm and close each night
Sweet nothings whispered in her ear
The moments that she held so dear

But now she lies alone in bed
Her pillow wet with tears she shed
She feels so lost without him there
She's overwhelmed with her despair

She lies there thinking of the past
Her perfect love that couldn't last
When all her hopes of what would be
Were swept into that raging sea

Now every time she shuts her eyes
She sees her love and his demise
She hopes these painful thoughts will fade
So she can live the life she's made

But still she sits alone each day
And sees her lifetime tick away
While men stand knocking at her door
She thinks about her life before

And though these men are kind and fun
Her heart has room for only one
So when they stand outside and knock
She sits there staring at the clock

Before there's time to blink an eye
Her entire life has passed her by
The men have long since ceased to care
As she sits, dying, in her chair

Then suddenly she sees her fate
And realizes it's too late
She doesn't have a love her own
And now she's dying all alone

She finally understands the cost
Of all those years of love she lost
And as the tears flow from her eyes
She finally makes her peace, then dies.
