Description of event:

A single stationary red light was observed during photographic survey of the Hookey Park area whilst skywatching while facing in a direction between West and North-West. The object appeared to be positioned at tree level a certain distance away - estimated to be at least 200 metres but probably more. The object remained stationary for about 3 minutes and was no longer visible after 7 pm. No conventional explanation is thought by the witness to account for the light in terms of celestial object, aircraft or reflection from another light source. Given the fact that the area under observation is a residential area a possible explanation may be vehicle brake lights, however as the object seemed to be positioned at a height above the roofs of possible houses in the vicinity of the treeline at treetop level (see photographs below), this might not be the case.

Duration of Sighting:
Approximately 10 minutes
Time of Sighting:
8.16 pm AEST
Compass Direction:
Approximately West
Elevation of UFO:
Based on angle of observation approximately 10 degrees

Description of event:

Description: I left my house at about 8.16 pm and immediatly noticed in the western sky a brightish point of light moving in a south direction and for a distance of about 2 cm (from my observation point) and on a level course. After about 3 seconds the moderate speed object stopped and remained stationary for at least 10 minutes. During observation it emitted a slightly fluctuating yellow/orange light which didn't exceed the size of about 2 mm diameter as viewed from my position. Another feature was a red light that was vagually viewable on it's lower right side as seen from my OP. It remained at about 20 degrees elevation during the sighting. No sound could be heard from the object. As I had to move on to do a task I lost sight of the object. At about 8.45 pm I had an opportunity to return to the location and noticed that the light was no longer visible. Throughout the time period in question stars were clearly visible in the sky overhead.

Date of Sighting: 20 April 2015

Location: Mooroolbark, Melbourne metropolitan area, Victoria, Australia
Duration of Sighting:
Approximately 15 minutes
Time of Sighting:
Between 7.20 and 7.35 pm AEST
Compass Direction:
Approximately West or perhaps about 300 degrees on a compass
Elevation of UFO:
Based on angle of observation approximately 10 degrees
Name of Observer: K.M.
Number of Observers: 1
Map with precise position of observer/s marked:

Description of event:

I spotted a bright yellowish light at about 7.20 pm at position "1" (see map) and moved my line of sight three more times to try and obtain a better viewing position to take a picture. The zoom facility on my camera was limited to 5 times optical with additional digital resolution magnification - the result was images of a single light, and camera movement made accurate photography difficult. It seemed to remain in a stationary position at about 10 degrees elevation above the horizon towards the West (maybe 300 degrees compass direction). It seemed stationary for 15 min but was actually moving imperceptably over that time towards the horizon. It was last seen on the horizon at 7.35 pm. The object made no sound, fluctuated slightly in light intensity and often seemed to move into an orange hue with a red light vaguely visible at one point on it's lower right circumference. I examined my astronomy software for celestial object information and the two possible candidates for a conventional explanation might be Venus (at approx. 303 degrees compass direction and approx. 3 degrees elevation) or Alderbaran (at 299 degrees compass direction and approx. 9 degrees elevation). I have discounted the possibility that this was a helicopter or other aircraft. The object was unmistakeably clear to view in the sky.

Date: 30 May 2015

I was thinking about my sighting of September 18 2014. I've discovered that on that date at approximately 8 degrees elevation/altitude and azimuth/compass 302 degrees (between West and the North West) the star Arcturus was visible in the sky. This conforms with the images taken on that evening where a red/orange point of light appears low on the horizon just above a treeline and ridge. Arcturus is known to produce red light.

Date of Sighting: 15 August 2015

Location: Lillydale Lake, Lilydale, Melbourne metropolitan area, Victoria, Australia
Duration of Sighting:
Approximately 4 minutes
Time of Sighting:
9.46 pm AEST
Compass Direction:
Approximately North-East
Elevation of UFO:
Based on angle of observation approximately 25 degrees elevation (Azimuthal)
Name of Observer: A.P, J.H, R.M, K.M.
Number of Observers: 4
Map with precise position of observer/s marked:
(See orange diamond for Ob. loc.)

Description of event:

At 9.46 pm an orange light was observed by four people during a skywatch at Lillydale Lake. The object was stationary for one or two minutes but started to drift or travel slowly apparently to either the South-East or South and was lost to sight shortly thereafter. The Bureau of Meteorology did not record any wind speed for the Scoresby station (covers the metro region where Lilydale is located) between the times of 9 and 10 pm or at any time that evening after 6 pm, whilst the record at the Coldstream station indicated winds of up to 4km/h between 9 and 10 pm travelling SSE then SSW but only calm either side of that period. The intensity and/or diameter of the light fluctuated at least once but appeared reasonably constant. No blinking or additional lights were observed by all members of the group, although one stated at the time of observation that he may have seen an addition light close by that he associated with the object. No sound was detectable.
