MARK MARTIN
Mark ran five NASCAR races in 1981, but began his first full sason in 1982.  His rookie year he had eight top-ten finishes.  He never received payment from his sponsor and sold everything he had in his shop in 1983.  He ran a limited Winston Cup schedule for various owners that year before returning to the ASA series.  He returned to NASCAR Busch Series in 1987.  His win at Dover that year received the attention of Jack Roush, who selected Martin to be his driver.  Since 1988 he has earned 32 Winston Cup victories and finished second in the point standings three times.

CHASE FOR THE NEXTEL CUP - FINAL TEN RACES

Following the 26th race of the season, all drivers in the top ten and any others within 400 points of the leader will earn a berth in the Chase for the Nextel Cup.  All drivers in the Chase will have their points adjusted.  The top driver will have 5,050 points and the second place driver will have 5,045 with incremental drops of five points .

Martin has been in a mad dash to make it into the Chase.  They managed to make four top-five finishes in the last five races; making it into the top ten with two spaces to spare.
