| Who can volunteer? * Practicing and retired licensed healthcare professionals from all medical fields. * Non-licensed individuals with medical experience. * Mental health professionals including counselors, social workers and clergy. * Non-medical volunteers who want to share special skills (i.e. translation, computer, p.r., etc.) and those who want to work in support roles. How do I join? * Apply online at: www.co.kern.ca.us/health/emergency/volunteer.asp Will I receive training? * KMRC members need to attend a brief new employee orientation. After that, optional training will be listed on this website. * CME's and CEU's will be available. * Training will be in person and online. What do KMRC volunteers do? Every effort will be made to match the emergency roles of volunteers with their professional skills, licensure and training. Healthcare worker activities may include: triage and patient assessment, patient education, dispensing of medication and vaccinations, assisting with mass sheltering. Social service work may include counseling and meeting mental health needs. Other activities may include: intake, clerical, translation, logistical support, security, communications, and supporting medical programs. How will I be called to serve? You will be asked to give phone and email contacts and you will receive directions for responding. What are my obligations? None. When you are called for service, you can decide whether or not to accept each assignment. |
