Brownie Troop 282
August 25, 2008
Dear Brownie Families,
Welcome Back to another year of scouting!
This year we have 9 girls returning for another year of adventures and Marianne Bach & Dori Mleczko will take on leadership roles. A lot will be staying the same, but we’ll have some new additions to the program as well. We look forward to an exciting and fun filled year.
Meeting Time & Place
As in previous years we will continue to meet in the school breezeway after school from 3:20-5 p.m. one Monday a month. One additional outing will be planned each month.
Girl Scout Changes
Last year we saw our regional girl scout council name change from Trailways to the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana. This year the national girl scout organization refined their program by slightly changing grade levels for Daisys and Brownies (this does not affect our girls, they are still Brownies) and now includes a new Journey program that every girl scout will complete.
Included in your registration packet is a book for your daughter to read, complete and keep once she has finished it. Some of the book we will do together as a troop, but in an effort to make the experience more meaningful we will ask you and your daughter to work together at home to complete some of the book prior to our meeting. Hopefully this will give your daughter more time to reflect on what is important to her before we share with the troop. If all goes well we will complete the journey in 2-3 meetings and then move onto earning the traditional try-its.
Before the First Meeting
Registration
Since all of you have filled out the registration forms before and know what to do, we will not have a parent meeting before the first girls meeting. However if you have any questions please do not hesitate to call me. Please fill out all the information requested (a checklist is included), and return it to me, Kristin Moore, before September 4. If for some reason you can not get your registration to me by then, you can bring it with you when you pick up your daughter at the first meeting. But you must have returned at least your school release form to ME by the 4th, otherwise your daughter will be sent home on the 8th instead of attending the meeting.
The Brownie Quest
Before our first meeting please read pages 1-51 in your the Brownie Quest booklet with your daughter and have her complete exercises on pages 16, 33, 40-42, 46, and 49-51.
Please have your daughter bring her book to the meeting. Your daughter can certainly do all of the exercises, but these are the ones we will be focusing on at our meeting and will help us when we do pages 52-53 as a troop. As we complete each key within the book the girls will be earning a patch that represents the ideas we discussed. Thank you for your cooperation.
