Neuro-Psychiatry In Primary Care
Definitions
In order to proceed for discussing a rather complicated problem as primary care in neuro-psychiatric disorders a standardized base of definitions should be placed and utilized all through this review . Such definitions are necessary to make this review useful for the future reader. The definitions used were not arranged in alphabetical order but according to there importance to the subject .
Health :
According to the constitution of The World Health Organization (1948) "Health is a state of complete state of physical , mental , spiritual and social well being ".
Mental Health :
Ginsburg (1955) placed the most comprehensive definition of mental health which states that : " The ability to hold a job , have a family , keep out of trouble with the law , and enjoys the usual opportunities of pleasure " .
Primary Medical Care :
Describes a modality of health care that emphasize comprehensive ,person centered care that is continuous and longitudinal and does not immediately focus on specific disease or organ systems (Starfield B. ,1973), Or in a more simpler words Is the early detection and prompt treatment of the disease. It is a predominant form of secondary prevention (Robert G.S. , 1992 ) .
Primary Prevention :
Is the prevention of Disease or injury that includes
- Health education
- Specific protective measures
- Environmental modification
Preventive Medicine :
Is the branch of medicine concentrating on keeping people well , including both disease prevention and health promotion .
Public Health :
Is the application of preventive medicine techniques on the population .
pileptic Seizure :
Intermittent , stereotyped , disturbance of conscious , behavior , emotion or motor function or sensation that is believed to result from cortical neuronal discharge (Sander et Shorvon , 1987) .
CerebrovascularStroke :
�Is an ictal onset of focal or global neurological symptoms caused by ischemia or hemorrhage within the or around the brain resulting from disease in the cerebral blood vessels (Sacco R.L. , 1995) .
Transient Ischemic Attacks (TIA) :
is an acute loss of focal cerebral or monocular function with symptoms lasting less than 24 hours (Warrolow C , 1994) .
