Keeping it all Organized
Having an organized classroom is an important aspect of management and discipline.  When students are organized, they fight less over materials, have fewer questions, and know what is expected of them.  I pride myself on having a highly structured and organized classroom.
The class rules are posted above our main bulletin board.  This chart is our "Star Student" chart.  When students complete all of their homework for the week, they may place the star with their name on the grid.  I will call out a grid coordinate.  The student who has their star in that box will earn a homework pass.
Here is a picture of the front half of my room.  Students are in groups and are all able to see the chalkboard.  Various charts around the room outline student jobs and where to place their work.  There are also several reference posters that we have made which students can refer to for help with their assignments throughout the year.
Our classroom library encloses the "Reading Area".  Here books are placed in baskets labeled according to their contents.  The students have learned how to find a book at their "just right" level.  This enables me to keep all of our books in one place by genre, rather than by levels.
Our classroom "Reading Area" takes up the back half of the room.  Here students work with me in groups at the kidney table.  We are always on the carpet when learning new things.
