Holland Lop Information

History

The Holland Lop is one of the most popular breeds of today. Originating in the Netherlands the Holland Lop first appeared in the United States in 1976. Mr. Adrien De Cocks goal was to get a minture French Lop. He started developing the breed in 1949. He bred a French Lop with a Netherland Dwarf with no sucess. He later bred a French Lop buck to a French Lop Netherland Dwarf mix doe in 1952. He then bred a buck from that mating to a doe from the second or same mating. That is what started the development of the Holland Lop. With a later dwarf cross he finally succeeded getting four rabbits under four pounds. At first he called them Netherland Dwarf Lops then later calling them Holland Lops.
