THE UNDERRATED

In today's sports world, you see a lot of big name players. Unfortunately, these particular players seem to always grab the glory. I don't intend to bash these athletes. However, not one man is bigger than an entire team. It is because of this that I intend to pay respects to the players you may not know about.
A few years ago, my beloved Detroit Pistons traded away a big star named Grant Hill. Everyone questioned Joe Dumars when he made this particular trade. Remember who the Pistons got in return for him? The two players Detroit got for Grant Hill are none other than Chucky Atkins and Ben Wallace. Today, Wallace is an NBA icon for blocks and rebounds and Atkins is a deadly perimeter shooter. The two still wear Pistons' uniforms.
How about some hockey? Anybody know Kris Draper? I bet you only do if you are a Red Wings fan. In late December of last season, Draper finally got his 10th goal of the season. Draper has already matched this mark a month early with his gritty play on the "Grind Line" and hard snapshot.
Let's move onto baseball. Just as they do today, the Detroit Tigers had a left fielder that no one had ever heard of a few years ago. This particular player has since moved out of Detroit and become a major name in baseball. Did you figure it out? The player I am talking about is Luis Gonzalez, currently playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
I know that these players all have to deal with Detroit. That is why I came up with this big league pitcher. This player originally started with the Chicago Cubs. Unfortunately for the Cubs, they traded him away. The trade was obviously terrible because I can't remember who the Cubs got in return for their promising young pitcher. The pitcher is the Florida Marlins' Dontrell Willis.
This should go to show you that you should never give up on your "lesser players." You really never know when someone may start playing really well and never stop. If you're not careful, the next trade you make may give away a future big name player.
