~ PHOTO GALLERY IV : KASHMIR~

Besides being a popular type of cloth, Kashmir is the northern most state in India. During our trip to India last winter, my dad brought back several old photographs.  The following are pictures from a vacation in Kashmir taken by my great uncle [P.D. Mathur] in 1958. Apparently he won many awards for his photography.  I have no idea what type of camera or film he used, but all I know is that he developed the pictures himself and that they are crystal clear:

Here are my grandparents, my father, his brother, and his sister, on a boat in Dal Lake in Srinagar. The man on the left is no relation.

This is a house-boat on the Jhelum river - it's like a hotel...on the river.

My grandmother, great-aunt, and aunt standing on rocks looking at the Lidar river near Pahalgaam.

Here is a better view of the Lidar river - grandmother sitting on rocks.

This is a view of Gulmarg - I have no idea what it is...but i like the picture.

Still at the Lidar river - this time searching for a fish apparently.

Somewhere in some valley in Kashmir.

Here my thirsty grandmother takes a drink from the Lidar river - I would recommend against drinking any water in India today.
