Dean Kamen: Founder of FIRST

 

A decade ago Dean Kamen founded FIRST, (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). FIRST uses wholesale marketing and media techniques to motivate the next generation to want to learn science and technology.

Mr. Kamen has spoken on behalf of FIRST to the following organizations and associations: National Governor’s Association, the Council on competitiveness, the Government-University-Industry-Research Roundtable (GUIRR), the National Youth Congressional Leadership Council, the Yale University College if Engineering, the Teacher’s Academy of Math & Sciences, the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, and the University of Miami College if Engineering. Mr. Kamen was appointed as a Senior Lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Dean Kamen is the founder and owner of DEKA. He is an inventor, an entrepreneur, and an advocate for science and technology. While still a college undergraduate, he invented the first wearable infusion pump, which rapidly gained acceptance from diverse medical specialties as chemotherapy, neonatology and endocrinology. Mr. Kamen was awarded the Hoover Medal for "inventions that have advanced medical care worldwide, and for innovative and imaginative leadership in awakening America to the excitement of technology and its surpassing importance in bettering the lot of mankind.
