The Tale of Brother and Sister
(A Sister's Memoirs)
Poet's
Place
In Nineteen Sixty-four there was born a little boy,
the son of Howard and Judy... he brought their family joy.
This little boy was precious, he was the apple of their eye,
Never causing them much trouble, why he hardly even cried.

Then one day when he was four, a baby sister came along.
He prayed this wasn't happening, no, something must be wrong!
So he dared not look upon her, maybe she would go away...
But in spite of his persistence, mom said she would have to stay.

So he decided he would keep her if he absolutely must,
after all she might come in handy when he needs something to punch.
The days and years went on, brother and sister would fuss and fight.
But they were always on good behavior when the belt came into sight.

And the funniest scene was when mom made him give sister a hug.
I honestly think when it came to that, he would rather have swallowed a bug!
He cried? and he begged and he pleaded, but all to no avail.
Then he meagerly hugged little sister... but only when all else failed.

Well time has passed and they're all grown up with families of their own.
They still find things to quibble about, but brother always wins you know.
For instance, brother tells a story that he claims once occurred.
He declares that when sister was a youngen, she actually ate a turd.

Though she denies his accusation,
"I've got one to tell" she exclaims.
While trying to impress his new girlfriend, he drove into the wrong lanes.
Other cars were heading straight for them, but brother had it under control.
That is 'til he saw in his mirror... the lights of the highway patrol.

Ain't it just like a brother and sister not to let each other live down,
every stupid act of childhood, every embarassing ride through town.
Though the words may not get spoken, they express in their own ways,
thay they have love for one another, and their bond will always remain.

And to this day sister can irk her brother, just like when they were young.
All she has to do is say,
"Brother... won't you give your sister a hug!"
