Greetings! My name is Karen Halliday and my connection with the Pressentin family is through my maternal grandmother, Pauline Kemmerich nee Pressentin. She was the granddaughter of Karl von Pressentin (St.J.29), who emigrated from Germany to North America in 1868. I am creating this website because I have obtained photocopies of the three books of von Pressentin family history which have been published, and have enough ability with German to have translated substantial portions of them into English. I thought this would be a good way to make this genealogical information available to other English-speaking Pressentin relatives.

My translations are probably more literal than graceful. That is somewhat deliberate, so that it will be easy to make corrections. There are a number of words and phrases for which I was unable to find a translation that was satisfactory in context. I've left such terms, often along with my best guess at the meaning, in square brackets[ ]. I've done the best I can with these translations, but there are lots of legal and other specialized terms I had difficulty with. Corrections will be gratefully accepted! - KH

Sources and Credits
All of the information on these pages is translated from three published books of von Pressentin family history:

Book I: Wilhelm von Pressentin. History and Family Trees of Members of the Family von Pressentin (Prestin). Schwerin, 1899. 172 p.; I found a copy of this book in the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, photocopied it. I have translated only portions for my direct family line.
Book II: Klaus Gerd v. Pressentin. History of the Family v. Pressentin and v. Pressentin called v. Rautter. Prepared for the Family Association and published on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. Luneburg, 1935.; This is the fanciest of the books, with a number of photographs and a nice section describing estates that have been in the family's possession at various times. It is typed in "Fraktur" script, which is hard for me to read, so it has been rather slow going as I have to re-type everything into Roman letters before I can really start on a translation. I have worked from photocopies made by my mother, Barbara Halliday, from an original book graciously loaned to us by [?? Mom?]. I have translated portions concerning the early history of the family and my own direct-line ancestors. I am currently working on translations of the estate information.
Book III: Klaus Gerd v. Pressentin. History of the Family v. Pressentin and v. Pressentin called v. Rautter Continuation of his work of 1935 in Book II. Hanover, 1962.; I have translated this most recent book in full from a copy owned by Pauline Kemmerich. I personally found this book to be the most interesting to work on. North Americans, you will find some pretty amazing stories of the war and post-war years in here!
