ROBERT NORVELL BAIRD
YALE -- Robert Norvell Baird, 68, was accustomed to hard work. He worked in Portland, Ore., shipyards at the age of 16, owned a body shop in Yale and worked for Harley Thomas Ford in Stillwater and Jett Gas Co. in Cushing.
Baird died Wednesday, May 8, 1996, at Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Dersham officiating.
Interment will be in Lawson Cemetery north of Yale under the direction of the Palmer Funeral Home.
Baird was born june 23, 1927, in Yale to George Edward and Laura Viola (Watson) Baird. He attended the Quay School.
He married Velma Lou Robinson on Sept. 2, 1953, in Cushing.
Baird also drove a school bus for Yale Schools and worked for Mac's Body Shop in Stillwater.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and a past Lions Club member, an American Legion member, a city councilman and a member of the Tri County Action Board. He also had a love for animals, gardening and cookouts.
He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, George and Nathan Baird; and one sister, Marjorie McChesney.
Survivors incude his wife, of the home; one son, Calvin R. and Phyllis Baird of Stillwater; two daughters, Sherry L. Faulkner and Robin K. Baird, both of Yale; three grandchildren, Clint, Bobbie and Katy Faulkner; and one step-grandson, Bruce Moore of Stillwater.
Baird also surivided by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Elton B. and Jackie Baird of Perkins, Don and Joan Baird of Spokane, Wash., and Reeder and Edith Baird of Muncie, Ind.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Laura and Merle Rathbun of Goldendale, Wash., and Ruth and Lawrence Williams of Cushing; and two sisters-in-law, Katherine Baird of Yuncie, Ind., and Gail Baird of Wenatchee, Wash.
