Enough Room in the Cafeteria?
Many Schreiber students have been complaining that the cafeteria is too small and gets too crowded, during lunch hours. It takes more that ten minutes to find a place to sit, and that’s if your lucky, most people have to find an alternative place to go when they want to eat lunch.
During the periods 4-1 and 4-2, many Schreiber students rush into the cafeteria so that they have a place to eat lunch. Many of the students come into the cafeteria not to eat their lunch, but to hang out and socialize, with their friends. Which make it hard for the people who enter the cafeteria for the sole purpose to eat their lunch. When students complain about the cafeteria being too crowded, Dr. Barish opened up room 140 in the science wing as an alternative place to go and eat. Even after he opened this room, the cafeteria was still extremely crowded.
Not only is the cafeteria too small, it can be considered a fire hazard. Because since it is so small, if there was a fire drill or a real fire, with so many people in the cafeteria, it would be time consuming, and difficult to evacuate.
Since the cafeteria is so small, it gets extremely noisy. Not trying to say that the cafeteria is supposed to be like the library, but you should be able to hear what the person next to you is saying. With so many people in the cafeteria, that is hard to accomplish, and can get very aggravating. So much that again, people have to leave and go elsewhere.
The only solution to this problem is to make the cafeteria bigger. One way of going about this could be for students to let Dr. Barish know that the cafeteria is still way too small, and that something has to be done about it. Members of the Student Council could bring up this subject in one of their meetings, and present it to Dr. Barish as well.
With a larger cafeteria, more chairs and tables can fit in the cafeteria. More people can fit in the cafeteria, and a lot more people will not have to be forced away from the cafeteria, and they won’t have to find an alternative place to eat their lunch.
