The Bird's Nest
Ok.  This is what the garage was built for.  On Saturday October 6 2001 the first major project on my Firebird was started.  I decided it was time to remove the all original WK block (350 H.O.) to have it "freshened up" at a local engine shop.  This will allow me to detail the rest of the engine compartment while the motor is out.  I will post pics on this page of my progress.  So lets get started shall we?
Pic before any work was started (resting in her new home)
First step.  Remove the battery.  Here is a good view of what kind of cleaning I have to do.  No question this car has never been touched.
Next came the fan, pully, power steering pump and other small items such as spark plug wires, heater hoses etc.  Uhhg, look at that surface rust.
Next was the vacuum lines.  As you can see, I labeled these and ran a diagram so I know how to put them all back on.  These lines have already been replaced, so I am getting a correct color coded set from Ames.  Notice incorrect chrome valve covers.  The original owner was a 16 years old when he got the car, so he put on the chromes for some "flash".  They are getting replaced with correct painted ones.....Thanks Brett!
Here is a pic with a lot of the things stripped off except the carb.  Since this pic the carb, linkage, fuiel pump, exhaust heat shield and distributer have come out.  Next up is to disconnect the exhaust and then remove the exhaust manifolds (need to soak the bolts in PB Blaster before attempting that, good call Jason!) valve covers, intake, starter and then disconnect the trans.  (Easier said than done!) Follow the "more pictures" to continue the adventure.
