Project Engine Removal
While at Jess Miller Machine Shop in West Chester Pa, we rebuilt the high HP 350 H.O. The goal was to be able to run pump gas but keep the HP numbers as close as possible to the stock 320.  Mission accomplished.  New custom forged Diamond flat top pistons were installed to reduce compression to 9.25:1.  A more aggressive Lunait cam was installed to gain the HP loss on the lower compression and the block was bored .030 over.  Other internal parts were replaced, but I won't bore you with those details.
November 25, 2002 the engine was picked up and sent home.  Ahhh.  Engine in a bag!  Now comes the fun part, bolting everything back on.  Over the past 11 months I either cleaned or painted every single part on the engine and in the engine compartment.  Everything is ready to go.  Assembly has started already.  The engine goes in the car Saturday, December 7th, my next update will be then.  Stay tuned.
The Bird said "feed me", that's just what I did on Saturday December 7th.   Work started promptly at 8:30 a.m. (after a big breakfast of course).

All went well.  After discussion with many of my technical experts from the Firstgen Firebird list, I decided to install the transmission first, then bolt on the bellhousing to the trans, then mate the engine up into the trans and bell housing.
Return to Home
At 12:00 noon, the engine was sitting comforably in the engine compartment.  It went really smoothly, I mean REALLY smoothly.   Many, many thanks to everyone that gave me good advice, and a million thanks to Bill and Jake, my buddies that helped put it in.  I could not have done it without any of you!

Oh, and that's a pic of me feeling very proud.
There she is.  After spending Sunday morning bolting on parts, here is my progress to date.  All the original parts are going back on.  You can see the Jet Hot coated exhaust manifolds, the rebuilt Quadrajet.  It looks great!  Next up is the radiator and cooling system.  I am almost there.  She should be ready to fire up around Christmas time.  What a present!  Please give me your feedback on my detail job of the engine compartment.  Check back for further progress.  Thank you.
