Cider House Rules-John Irving
Fiction. An epic story mainly told in the viewpoint of Homer Wells. Homer Wells is an orphan living in Maine who is trained to become a doctor before he goes to high school by the head of the orphanage, Dr. Larch. Eventually he gets from the orphanage by a young couple who works at an apple orchid. Homer falls in love with the woman while the man goes to war. Interesting novel that explores homan relationships and also the morality of abortion. A lot of interwoven stories that don't get confusing.
The World According to Garp-John Irving
Fiction. Instead of a romantic love story, this is a funny quirky novel with sarcastic/sadistic humor. I liked it better because the main character often gets angry with the world and the results are always hilarious. The main character is a frustrated writer and the son of a feminist(the way he was conceived was a little weird). He grows up in an all boys school where his mother is the nurse and marries the wrestling coach's daughter. The book is how he deals with whatever comes along the way.....a little graphic.
