Ivar was with in a bear hurt in the Kongevoll woods about 1840. Thebear attacked several that time and Ivar was crushed. He was in badhealth after that and died in 1856 at 42 years old. His 16 year oldson Per died that same year.
He was from the Urdal artist family and had learned rosemåling fromhis father, but did little painting after he came to Kongevoll.
