INT. DEREK?S CAR
Derek drives while Meredith sits in the passenger seat, looking out the window.
 DEREK
So, Addison finally moved out of the trailer.
 MEREDITH
So does that mean you?re moving back there?
 DEREK
 For the time being.
 MEREDITH
 She hated that trailer.
 DEREK
 Don?t remind me.
  MEREDITH
 So, where are we going?
 DEREK
The trailer. Addison literally moved her stuff out yesterday. I want to see if it?s actually livable, or if she torched the place.
 MEREDITH
Torching sounds like Addison?s style.
 DEREK
She is Satan.
Derek pulls his car up to the trailer. There is another car in the driveway.
 MEREDITH
 Who?s car is that?
 DEREK
 Got me.
Derek and Meredith get out of the car and a woman walks around the side of the trailer, checking it out like she is unsure whether to stay or leave. She looks over and sees the two of them and begins to walk over.
 DEREK
 Madeline?
 MADELINE
 Derek!
Madeline jogs over to Derek and lets him pick her up in his arms and give her a big bear hug. Derek puts her back down with a big smile on his face.
 DEREK
 Meredith this is Madeline.
 MADELINE
Madeline Sheppard. How do you do?
 MEREDITH
Sheppard? Not another ex wife, right?
Derek gives Meredith a quirky smile.
 DEREK
No. This is the youngest of my four sisters.
Meredith gives a sigh of relief, then sticks her hand out and shakes Madeline?s hand.
 DEREK
Maddy? What are you doing here?
 MADELINE
Mom and I got into another huge argument. So, I refuse to go home for Thanksgiving. And you never come home for Thanksgiving Mr. Doctor man. So, I?d thought I?d drop in on the off chance that you didn?t have to work.
 DEREK
And if I did have to work?
 MADELINE
Then I would be staying at a hotel, having an absolutely fabulous Thanksgiving dinner in a bath tub. (pause) So, is this the little intern that Addi?s feathers are all in a ruffle about?
 DEREK
You could say that. Come on, let?s check out the trailer. Addison just moved out.
Derek leads the way into the trailer and opens the door.
INT. TRAILER
Derek holds his breathe as he opens the door and steps in. He visibly relaxes when he sees the inside of the trailer is spotless and in perfect order.
 MADELINE
You really are quite famous in New York. Every week since Addi?s been here, she?s been calling with stories of the famous Meredith Grey.
 MEREDITH
Great?
 MADELINE
Don?t worry, I never liked her.
 DEREK
WHAT? You were like, her best friend. You two were always on the phone together. I had to pry Addison?s hands off the phone just to talk to you.
 MADELINE
Hell no. I acted like I was cause I knew you liked her. I haven?t taken any of her calls since you two separated and divorce papers were mentioned. Besides, you know what they say. Keep your friends close, you?re your enemies closer. (pause) Carrie, on the other hand is devastated.
 DEREK
I will never understand the female mind. (pause) Carrie liked Addison?
Derek paws through drawers to see what is there and what is missing.
 MADELINE
She?s against divorce. You know that. So, what are we doing for Thanksgiving?
Derek closes the drawer with a satisfied smile.
 DEREK
It really is amazing how you so easily invite yourself along.
 MADELINE
What are sisters for? Besides, I want to get to know Meredith. I?m going to have to give a full report when I go home.
Derek leads the way back out of the trailer, then locks the trailer door.
 DEREK
So, mom really sent you to spy?
 MADELINE
Maybe. Ok, yes. But the story about us fighting, totally true.
 DEREK
Hop on in. We have to make a stop at the hospital, then we?re going back to Meredith?s for a big get together. Can you call Izzy and let her know there?ll be another mouth to feed?
 MEREDITH
I?m sure she?ll be thrilled. The more the merrier with Iz.
Meredith, Derek and Madeline walk back to Derek?s car. Meredith automatically goes to the back of the car.
 MADELINE
 You can sit up front.
 MEREDITH
I?m sure you haven?t seen Derek in awhile. Go ahead. I?ll be fine in back.
 MADELINE
I like this girl already.
Derek, Madeline, and Meredith get into the car and Derek pulls away.
INT.HOSPITAL
Alex and Callie look at an x ray of the girl?s foot.
 CALLIE
So, what do you see Dr. Karev?
Alex points to two spots as he talks.
 ALEX
It?s broken here, and here. But both can be fixed by putting pins in, then a cast on her whole foot and ankle.
 CALLIE
Right on, Dr. Karev. Go book an Or, then prep the patient for surgery.
 ALEX
I?m on it.
Alex leaves the x ray room.
INT.HOSPITAL ? PATIENT?S ROOM
Christina enters a room where the patient, Brendan, has a knife in his leg. Christina carries a box full of needles and pain shots.
 CHRISTINA
We took x-rays of your leg to make sure the knife didn?t hit a bone. It didn?t, so I?m going to give you something to numb the leg, then we?re going to pull it out and I?m going to stitch you up.
 BRENDAN
Sounds like a plan.
Christina puts the box on the bed and pulls out the medication that she?s looking for and puts it on the bed. She inserts a needle into a plastic container for the shot, then puts the medication in the plastic container.
 CHRISTINA
 So, relax.
 BRENDAN
That?s easier to say than to do.
Christina inserts the needle next to where the knife and the medication seeps in.
 BRENDAN
My wife did this to me.
 CHRISTINA
What did you do to piss her off?
 BRENDAN
I told her that I was going to work.
 CHRISTINA
 On Thanksgiving?
 BRENDAN
 You?re here on Thanksgiving.
 CHRISTINA
 I?m a workaholic.
 BRENDAN
 Me, too.
Christina pushes on the side of the wound.
 CHRISTINA
 How does that feel?
 BRENDAN
 Painful.
 CHRISTINA
We?ll give it a few minutes.
 BRENDAN
Don?t you have anywhere to spend Thanksgiving?
 CHRISTINA
Do you really think that?s any of your business?
 BRENDAN
Just making small talk.
 CHRISTINA
Yes, I do. But my boyfriend?s mother is there. I don?t deal well with mothers.
 BRENDAN
Ditto on that.
 CHRISTINA
They act like we owe them something after they gave us birth. What is their problem?
 BRENDAN
I second that. My mom brings up how she spent 30 hours in labor with me every chance she gets.
 CHRISTINA
That?s such a mom thing to say.
Christina becomes angry and yanks the knife out and drops it into a container of water. Brendan passes out from the pain.
 CHRISTINA
Guess the painkillers didn?t start working.
Christina stitches him up and gets a thing of smelling salts, slipping them under Brendan?s nose. Brendan jerks awake.
 BRENDAN
 What happened?
 CHRISTINA
 You passed out.
 BRENDAN
 I got that much.
 CHRISTINA
So, you?re all stitched up, but we have to wait for the bleeding to stop. Put pressure like this. I?ll be back soon.
 BRENDAN
Okay.
Christina pulls her gloves off and leaves the room.
INT.HOSPITAL ? HALLWAY
Madeline, Meredith, and Derek all stand in front of the board and cross their arms. Richard walks up them.
 RICHARD
What are you two doing here? Neither one of you is scheduled to work. And who are you?
 DEREK
That?s my sister, Madeline. And we came to check on patients. What are you doing here?
 RICHARD
I?m on my way out.
 DEREK
I?ll believe that when I see it.
Olivia walks over to the group.
 OLIVIA
Chief? Your wife is on the phone. She sounds angry.
 RICHARD
She always sounds angry. Tell her I?m in surgery.
 OLIVIA
I would, sir. But she?s scary. And she said that if she didn?t talk to you she?d come here herself to see if you actually were in surgery. Then there was divorce mentioned.
 RICHARD
That woman will be the death of me.
 DEREK
More like this job will be. You can?t function without a hospital fix everyday.
 RICHARD
Olivia, transfer the call to my office. Look who?s here on their day off.
 DEREK
I don?t NEED to be here every day. My days are just better when I drop in.
Richard sighs and heads to his office.
Christina comes up to the group.
 CHRISTINA
 Hey. You avoiding Izzy?
 MEREDITH
 Like the plague.
 DEREK
We are not avoiding. We are going back to the house. Soon.
 CHRISTINA
So you?re doing what exactly right now?
 DEREK
 Admiring the board.
 MEREDITH
Why aren?t you at the house?
 CHRISTINA
 I volunteered to be tortured.
 MEREDITH
 Excellent.
 CHRISTINA
Do I have any other kinds of ideas?
 MEREDITH
Never. When do you get off?
 CHRISTINA
 Too soon.
 MEREDITH
 Who are you avoiding?
 CHRISTINA
 Burke?s mom.
 MEREDITH
Still mad about the time out?
 CHRISTINA
It?s ridiculous. I?m a grown woman. In the last year, I?ve had two time outs.
 MEREDITH
We deserved the first one.
 CHRISTINA
I did not deserve the second one. (pause) Do you know how long it?s been since I?ve laid naked with Burke?
 DEREK
All right. Maddy? Let?s go check on a few patients.
 MADELINE
But this conversation is JUST getting interesting.
 DEREK
Maddy?
 MADELINE
All right, all right.
Derek and Madeline walk away.
 CHRISTINA
I?m horny and frustrated. I need to cut more things open.
 MEREDITH
Wouldn?t it be easier to talk to Burke?
 CHRISTINA
No.
 MEREDITH
Try wearing skimpy little things around the apartment. Stuff you know Burke likes. See what happens.
 CHRISTINA
Nice plan.
 MEREDITH
Thanks. I try.
 CHRISTINA
So who was that with McDreamy.
 MEREDITH
McSister.
 CHRISTINA
You?re meeting the Mcfamily?
 MEREDITH
Not by choice.
Bailey walks down the hallway and sees Christina and Meredith talking.
 BAILEY
Yang. This is not a social hour. And what are you doing here?
 MEREDITH
Just checking on some patients.
 BAILEY
We could use the extra hand.
 MEREDITH
I?m in.
 BAILEY
Good. Now go put your scrubs on.
Meredith scurries to the locker room.
