INT.HOSPITAL ? RIPLEY?S OFFICE
Ripley sits at an upright piano in the corner of her office. She gently pushes down on one of the keys, then taps out a scale. She begins adding notes until the chords of How To Save A Life can be distinguished.
The scene climbs up through the floor and into the room where all of the kids are playing and Izzy is talking to Jack.
The scene then switches to Bailey and Alex scrubbing in on a surgery, then follows the two into the OR. The anesthesiologist places an oxygen mask over the patient?s face and their eyes blink a few times before they fall completely closed.
The scene then moves to George pushing Barb?s gurney into another OR. Addison scrubs in.
The scenes then moves to Marian?s room where her heart monitor starts to beep in a steady line. Olivia walks in to check on her and pushes the code blue button. Several nurses and Meredith rush into the room and try to get Marian?s heart started again.
Bailey and Alex work on their patient.
Then Addison and George.
Then Meredith, Olivia, and Marian.
Bailey and Alex finish up, then Addison and George.
Then Meredith steps away from Marian?s bed.
  OLIVIA
 Call it, Dr. Grey.
  MEREDITH
 4:40 PM.
The scene then moves back to Ripley at the piano, tapping out the ending of the song.
George opens the door and startles Ripley.
 RIPLEY
Hey. I?m surprised you?re not in surgery.
 GEORGE
I just got done. I had a few minutes and wanted to come see you. No patient?
 RIPLEY
Nope. I have a little free time. Come sit.
Ripley pats the piano bench next to her. George walks over and sits down.
 GEORGE
 This is new.
 RIPLEY
I spend most of my time here, so? It gives me something to do when I have breaks. Something that isn?t Psychology related.
 GEORGE
You play?
 RIPLEY
Yeah. Had to for music school. I?m not that good. I can plunk stuff out, but I can?t do anything too fancy.
 GEORGE
Play me something.
 RIPLEY
Oh, you don?t want to hear me play. Really.
 GEORGE
Come on.
 RIPLEY
George?
 GEORGE
It?s just me.
 RIPLEY
Fine. Do you want jazz or classical?
 GEORGE
Classical.
 RIPLEY
Okay, okay.
Ripley sits and stares at the keys a moment, debating on what to play. She gently puts her hands on the keys and begins playing Preludes Op 28 Number 4 in E minor by Frederick Chopin.
Scene shifts to Addison walking purposefully down the hall to the room with one security guard guarding the door.
Addison stops in front of the door takes a deep breath and moves to open it.
 SECURITY GUARD
 I can?t let you in there, Ma?am.
 ADDISON
 I am a doctor.
 SECURITY GUARD
Regardless. She is my number one priority.
 ADDISON
Fine, then get Izzy Stevens out of there. I need to have a talk with her.
The security guard knocks twice and Jack opens the door. The other security guard points to Addison.
 ADDISON
 Izzy Stevens.
Jack goes back into the room and Izzy walks out with a questioning look on her face.
 IZZY
Dr. Montgomery, I was just supervising?
 ADDISON
Dr. Stevens. Are you trying to lose your license?
 IZZY
What are you talking about? I was just?
 ADDISON
I know what you were doing. And the parents highly appreciate it, but you?re putting yourself and the hospital in danger. What if something happened to one of those kids while you were in there?
 IZZY
Dr. Montgomery?
 ADDISON
Get those kids back to their father. Trust me, it?s better this way. No, go get Barb prepped for surgery and talk to the father.
INT.HOSPITAL ? BARB?S ROOM
Izzy enter the room with the kids in tow.
 BARB
 Back so soon?
 IZZY
Well, I?m sure the kids wanted to see you before you went into surgery.
 COLLEENA
Katie is so cool. Can we go back to play with her?
 QUINTIN
We?ll see, sweetie.
 IZZY
If they go back, you?ll have to go with them.
 QUINTIN
That?s fine.
 IZZY
I?m really sorry about that. I just wanted Katie to have someone to play with.
 BARB
Dr. Stevens, we were glad you could take them for awhile. We haven?t had any time by ourselves in years.
Scene shifts back to George and Ripley.
 GEORGE
 That was beautiful.
  RIPLEY
Ehh? Like I said, I can plunk stuff out.
 GEORGE
 It sounded good.
 RIPLEY
Anyway, have you talked to Izzy lately?
 GEORGE
 Just normal everyday banter, why?
 RIPLEY
Her fianc died. She?s seems to be doing AMAZINGLY well.
 GEORGE
She?s Izzy. She bounces back well.
 RIPLEY
I don?t know George. Has she cried?
 GEORGE
The night he died. The girls don?t cry in our group. Ever.
 RIPLEY
I know. I?m always telling Meredith to let it all out. She rants at me.
 GEORGE
It?s the whole control thing. Surgeons can never relinquish control.
Ripley shifts, so that she is looking at her watch.
 RIPLEY
Hey, I have a patient soon.
 GEORGE
When do you get off for today?
 RIPLEY
This is my last patient for the day. And no gig. Mind if I stop by your place?
 GEORGE
Sounds good to me. I?m done at 6, but I?ll call if anything comes up. Izzy?s done at 4. Go visit her.
 RIPLEY
I think I might. I?m kind of worried about her.
INT. MEREDITH?S HOUSE ?
The doorbell rings. Ripley stands outside. Izzy?s car is in the driveway, but nothing moves in the house. Ripley begins knocking on the door, then looks at her watch. There are no noises coming from inside the house. Ripley tries the door and it?s unlocked. She opens it up.
 RIPLEY
 Hello? Izzy?
Ripley hears sniffling from upstairs. Ripley drops her purse by the door and takes the stairs two at a time. Izzy?s door is slightly ajar. Ripley stands there a moment, listening to Izzy sniffle and let out sobs.
 RIPLEY
 Iz.
Izzy looks up at Ripley, her eyes are red and puffy and there are tears streaming down her cheeks. Ripley enters the room and sits down on the bed next to Izzy.
 IZZY
 I miss him.
 RIPLEY
 I know Iz.
 IZZY
His family didn?t even know about me. I? I couldn?t even go to the funeral.
 RIPLEY
Oh, Iz?
 IZZY
I feel so alone.
Ripley grabs Izzy?s hand.
 RIPLEY
You?re not alone Iz. I?m right here.
Meredith enters the room.
 MEREDITH
 We?re here Iz.
Meredith sits down on the bed on Izzy?s other side. Izzy?s tears begin falling faster and become fatter.
 IZZY
 Denny.
 RIPLEY
It?s okay Iz. Everything will be ok.
 IZZY
I thought? I thought that time would make it go away? But it hasn?t.
 RIPLEY
You haven?t grieved yet, Iz. Let it all out, sweetie.
 IZZY
I thought? I thought he was it? I thought?
 RIPLEY
What about Alex?
 IZZY
I? I don?t know.
 RIPLEY
Iz, if you aren?t ready? To date? You need to tell Alex.
 IZZY
I need? I need to feel wanted.
 RIPLEY
Iz?
 IZZY
No, I need to feel wanted.
 RIPLEY
This isn?t the way.
 MEREDITH
Rip?
 RIPLEY
Are you condoning this behavior??
 MEREDITH
Ripley. Izzy is broke.
 RIPLEY
Broke?
 IZZY
Broke.
 MEREDITH
Like when I broke George. And Derek broke me. I helped fix George, so did you. And Derek? Derek helped fix me. But Izzy? Denny can?t fix this.
 RIPLEY
Iz, you do what you gotta do to feel again. Really feel. Maybe Alex can help fix you.
 IZZY
I need to get ready for our date.
 MEREDITH (V.O)
Yes, we?re adults. We try to make adult decisions, ask adult questions and respond with adult answers. But sometimes we?re still that scared little kid who needs a hug every once in awhile.
