INT. MEREDITH?S HOUSE
Meredith and Derek are sleeping in bed.
 MEREDITH (V.O.)
As children, when we do something wrong, we?re forced to live with the consequences. The consequences usually consisted of having something taken away or being put in a time out. Adults also have to face consequences, but time outs are, for the most part, not an option.
Meredith?s alarm goes off. She groggily sits up and hits the snooze button. Meredith stretches her arms.
 DEREK (groggily)
 What time is it?
 MEREDITH
 Early.
 DEREK
I thought you didn?t have to go in until later.
 MEREDITH
I don?t. But someone didn?t put a condom on a few days ago.
 DEREK
Aren?t you on the pill?
 MEREDITH
No. I stopped taking it when I was sober. And then? Things happened. And I forgot to go back on.
 DEREK
Seriously? You forgot? Shouldn?t we talk about maybe getting you back on the pill?
 MEREDITH
Seriously? We wouldn?t have to talk about it if you had used a condom.
Derek sits up and reaches over for the clock. He picks it up and looks at the numbers.
 DEREK
So why are we discussing this at? 4:30 in the morning? Seriously Meredith.
 MEREDITH
Because today is the last day that I can take the morning after pill.
Meredith gets up and pulls a robe on, then heads towards the door. Derek jumps up and moves in front of her when he hears this.
 DEREK
Whoa, whoa, whoa. I thought we decided to let fate play out. If this is in our cards than we should let it happen.
 MEREDITH
Derek, this is MY career we?re playing with here.
 DEREK
Meredith.
  MEREDITH
Derek. I?ve changed my mind. I?m not ready to be a mom. I?m scary. And damaged. Still. I don?t want to bring a kid into that. Than I?d be even more scary and damaged and so would the kid.
 DEREK
You are not scary and damaged.
 MEREDITH
I so am.
 DEREK
You are not.
 MEREDITH
Derek, I am.
 DEREK
What makes you say that?
 MEREDITH
Seriously? One word. Mother. Who wouldn?t be screwed up with Ellis Grey as their mother? Seriously.
 DEREK
Mer?
 MEREDITH
Derek. I?m not ready. Can?t you understand that.
 DEREK (sighing)
Okay. Okay.
INT. MEREDITH?S HOUSE ? LIVING ROOM
Meredith quietly makes her way down the stairs and stops to look in the living room.
 MEREDITH
Santa freaking barfed in my living room.
There is a Christmas tree covered in lights and what seems to be hundreds of ornaments with a lone star on the top. There are five stockings on the fireplace with names scrawled in ornate handwriting. Garland also covers the fireplace.
Meredith shakes her head and continues walking, reminding herself that Izzy is still having a hard time.
George walks down the stairs, looking in the living room as he goes, bumping into Meredith.
 GEORGE
Sorry. Did Santa die in here?
 MEREDITH
No, I think by the looks of this room, Santa is very much alive and very much kicking.
 GEORGE
Izzy?
 MEREDITH
Seriously? Who else? I?ve got to go.
Ripley comes down the stairs wearing black pants and a tank top.
 RIPLEY
Good. I?m glad I caught you both before you left for the morning. I need to ask a huge favor.
 GEORGE
Anything.
 MEREDITH
I won?t agree to it so easily. Never know what you?ll have us doing. What do ya need?
 RIPLEY
I got a call yesterday that the Santa that was hired for the children?s center was arrested. And all of his elves. Could you guys give me a hand? It doesn?t pay, but there?s free cookies. And you?ll be making some kid?s day.
 MEREDITH
I don?t know, Rip? The holidays?
 RIPLEY
Mer, I know you?re not into the holidays, but these kids? They need what little happiness they can get over the holidays. Derek has already agreed to play Santa, so you guys could be Mr. and Mrs. Klaus. Wouldn?t that be cute?
 MEREDITH
What about Izzy?
 RIPLEY
I?m going to ask Iz, too. Seriously, Mer. We need all the help we can get.
 MEREDITH
All right, all right. When is the party?
 RIPLEY
Excellent! Next Thursday. Thank you so much. Seriously, that?s one big relief for me.
 MEREDITH
You owe me one.
 RIPLEY
Seriously? Are we really going to start keeping track, cause I think you owe me about a hundred million.
 MEREDITH
Okay, maybe not. (pause) I gotta go. See you guys later.
Meredith walks out the door.
 RIPLEY
 Soo?
 GEORGE
 Soo?
 RIPLEY
 Last night was good.
 GEORGE
 Very.
 RIPLEY
 Want to relive it?
 GEORGE
 Seriously? Absolutely.
INT.HOSPITAL ? PATIENT?S ROOM
Bailey, Meredith, George, Christina and Alex all stand around the patient laying in the bed. The patient is Marian August.
 BAILEY
 Presenting.
 MEREDITH
This is Marian August, 40 years old. She has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Dr. Montgomery plans to take out both of her ovaries.
 BAILEY
Who wants to scrub in?
The interns look everywhere but Dr. Bailey.
 BAILEY
Dr. Montgomery is one of the top neonatal surgeons out there. You fools would do well to learn from her. I have to pick? Fine. O?Malley. You?re with Montgomery today.
 GEORGE
 Yes, Dr. Bailey.
INT.HOSPITAL ? ELEVATOR
Meredith stands holding an armful of folders. The doors ding open and Derek enters.
 DEREK
 Dr. Grey.
 MEREDITH
 Dr. Sheppard.
 DEREK
 This morning?
 MEREDITH
 Everything is taken care of.
 DEREK (sad)
 Okay.
 MEREDITH
Derek? We JUST got back together we?re not
ready yet. And how could you agree to playing Santa without talking to me?
 DEREK
Ripley cornered me. What was I supposed to say?
 MEREDITH
She wants us to be Mr. and Mrs. Klaus. She thinks it will be cute.
 DEREK
Well now. That isn?t so bad. You?ll be the sexiest Mrs. Klaus I?ve ever seen.
Meredith and Derek start laughing and the doors to the elevator ding open to reveal Addison. Addison steps into the elevator.
 ADDISON
 Well, isn?t this quite cozy.
Meredith starts coughing and Derek tries to stop laughing, but can?t help himself and starts laughing again.
 MEREDITH
We got talked into being Mr. and Mrs. Klaus for the children?s center.
 ADDISON
The one that Ripley volunteers at?
 DEREK
Do you think the people she got were really arrested?
 MEREDITH
I doubt it. But it?s a good cover up.
The elevator doors ding open onto Meredith?s floor.
 MEREDITH
See ya later.
Meredith exits the elevator before doing a double take at how nice Addison had just been.
 DEREK
 You?re awfully chipper this afternoon.
 ADDISON
I have decided to get into the true spirit of Christmas. Let bygones be bygones and all that jazz. Giving Meredith nothing to do but sit with patients actually didn?t help me out at all. I ended up doing more work, making the whole revenge thing counter productive.
 DEREK
You?re not planning some elaborate vindictive scheme where the hospital ends up being blown up?
 ADDISON
I would have left the hospital if that was my plan.
 DEREK
So, bygones be bygones?
 ADDISON
Where Meredith and I are concerned, yes. She?s already going to be blacklisted enough for sleeping with the married attending and breaking up the marriage.
 DEREK
What are you talking about?
 ADDISON
Seriously, Derek. You haven?t noticed how much this hospital loves gossip?
 DEREK
Dr. Yang and Dr. Burke-
 ADDISON
Dr. Burke was not married when he started dating Christina. I wouldn?t worry about it Derek. I?m sure everything is fine.
The elevator dings onto Derek?s floor. Derek steps off the elevator, his brows knit in concentration with what Addison just said.
INT.HOSPITAL ? CAFETERIA
Izzy, Meredith, George and Christina all sit at a table eating their lunch.
 CHRISTINA
I need a place to crash. Can I stay at your house, Mer?
 GEORGE
Things not working well with Mama Burke?
 CHRISTINA
She is the bane of my existence.
 IZZY
She seems like a perfectly nice woman to me.
 CHRISTINA
I refuse to stay in the apartment with her a day longer.
 MEREDITH
As long as you don?t mind the couch.
 CHRISTINA
Seriously? At this point, a slab of cement would make a better place to sleep.
 MEREDITH
How?s Burke?s hand?
 CHRISTINA
No better. He?s going to have to give up surgery. But I am going to be the ever caring and supportive girlfriend.
 GEORGE
Who?s moving out until Mama Burke leaves.
 CHRISTINA
Seriously. Why do you call her Mama Burke?
 GEORGE
Because that?s what she told me to call her.
 CHRISTINA
Hissssssssssss.
Christina gets up and walks away from table, clearly angry at George being a better girlfriend than she.
 IZZY
I think you just pissed her off. You know she could kick your ass, right?
 GEORGE
Just because Mama Burke likes me better?
