MY BIRDS
WHY BIRDS?
These are a list of birds that I currently keep.  Some are pets, rescued animals and breeders.
There is a great variety of birds to choose from to suit almost all lifestyles.  The majority of bird species are very easy to care for and inexpensive to keep.  Birds are generally intelligent animals which will provide their owners with many years of joy

POULTRY AND PIGEONS

Poultry generally suit those with a backyard, many people keep poultry as pets, show birds or for fresh eggs.  Some people also choose to keep poultry for eating (although this is not the case for myself).  It is wise however to have a large enclosed area for most types of poultry as they often fall victim to foxes, dogs and cats.  Maintaining good health, avoiding overcrowding and a good diet is of the utmost importaince as many poultry diseases can be transmitted to humans.

PARROTS

Parrots are interactive birds that generally love attention, it is for this reason that many choose to own a parrot.  Most parrot species are able to learn to talk or whistle simple tunes.  Parrots come in a wide selection of colours and sizes some of the most popular being budgerigars (parakeets), cockatiels and larger species such as sulphur crested cockatoos and alexandrine parrots.  Some parrots may be difficult to tame, others such as the lorikeet require special diets which consist of fruits and nectar.  It is also benificial to feed Australian native parrots flowers such as gravillia, bottlebrush and banksia as many commericially prepared foods have insufficient vitamins and minerals.

FINCHES

Finches and small songbirds.  These birds are popular primarily for their song however some are kept for theor plummage and show purposes.  Some finches are more difficult to care for than others such as the gouldian finch.  There are however many finches such as the canary and zebra finch which are hardy birds and are suitable for most beginers.
