Karen Land has worked in libraries for the past 25 years,
as an Administrator of Children's Services,
Adult Reference Librarian, and most recently
as Head School Librarian for Greenport Public School's
Elementary and High School Libraries. Retiring in 2006,she has
published her first picture book FAT TALE, a book about
the pitfalls of eating too much junk food.
She ran the Children's Department in Riverhead Free Library
including programming, story hours, and craft times.
She instituted Pajama Story Hour,
a monthly School District Art Display,
and Mother Goose Story Hour.

Working in Greenport Public Schools,
she has appeared on NBC (NY channel 4),
CBS (NY channel 2) and Long Island News channel 12
for her outstanding program, "Read With Me - No TV,"
encouraging students to try one week without viewing any television.
Ms. Land's program "Books For All"
received over 3,000 donations of new and slightly used books.
These books were given to all the elementary students in her school.

As a veteran storyteller,
she has created "Maria Alvarez",
on her Hispanic Menorcan Heritage.
Maria will visit your school,
tell about her life on an Indigo Plantation in 18th Century Florida
and tell age appropriate folktales from Spain.
Ms. Land has been telling stories in schools and libraries for 15 years.
In April, 2001 and 2004 she appeared as a guest presenter
at the C. W. Post College annual storytelling conference
in Brookville, New York.

Now retired Karen Land continues to write and illustrate children's books.
