Project            : Small System Platform Programme

The SSP Programme is designed to provide an enterprise class database platform to migrate a number of legacy applications to a Java/Oracle environment. A number of technical issues and the current lack of security accreditation have prompted the launch of this project. I successfully handled the management problems inherited on the project, bringing the project to resolution in an accelerated time frame. I was responsible for finding the schedule problem, re-estimated project end date and re-costing the project. This project presented me with an opportunity of managing development teams in five different locations and to demonstrate my people-management skills, which I am successfully did.

Unique Challenges:

§         Managing multiple complex projects

§         Limited budget and resource

§         3 months behind schedule and over spent

§         Enhancement work to add security features

§         Managing teams in multiple locations

§         Managing expectations of high profile users(Ministers and Directors)

Project            : Talking Jobpoints

An innovative project to develop a ‘Talking’ Jobpoint (Kiosk), for visually impaired customers, people with dyslexia or other reading difficulties. Initially this project was being developed using a third party COTS product. I encouraged my team to think out-of-the-box and motivated them to innovate. Utilising my experience and technical knowledge, our team developed a proof of concept to demonstrate that EDS can deliver the speech capability ourselves through our own minor development and the use of Microsoft tools which we already pay for under the various operating systems hence big cost savings. I was responsible for the complete project life cycle, which includes scheduling, costing, dealing with the Accessibility Solutions Agency, development, procurement and implementation. This innovative idea was highly appreciated by the customer and management.

Unique Challenges:

§         Managing expectations of people with disabilities

§         Challenging timescales and limited budget

It also supports business decisions to relocate kiosks in the Jobcentres and decisions related to roll out of Flexible Service Delivery (FSD) kiosks.
